2 Litre blacktop into a mk5 'Tina
I've just bought a 2 litre blacktop out of an x plate mondeo and would like to fit it into my mk5 Cortina. Can anyone point me in the direction of what bits I need, i.e. gearbox, engine mounts, clutch, etc. etc. please ? If possible, a complete idiots guide would be great 'cos I've never attempted anything like this before, I'm not bad with the spanners but mainly old skool is what I'm best at. Any help you could give would be very much appreciated guys, thanks.

I found the stickies at the top of the Zetec Installations page very helpful

What I was hoping for, is a list of what parts I need and maybe some some advice from someone who has already done this conversion.

Ok I'll do my best...
You can source some parts second hand to make it a bit cheaper, I'll list those at the end.
Parts to get from Retro Ford etc:
Engine Mounts
Sump Kit
Water Manifold
Flywheel
Spigot Bearing
Clutch Cable Bracket (for RS bellhousing)
Alternator Kit
Other parts you'll need - will differ depending on your choice:
Induction - Carbs/Throttle Bodies/Standard Induction. Which of these you choose will dictate the type of ECU you'll need. If you go for throttle bodies you'll need full engine management - Emerald etc. If you go for carbs you'll need a part engine management - Weber Alpha etc. Not sure about if you go for standard induction, but I've heard it's not too worthwhile in terms of effort involved vs. resulting power.
You'll need to choose an exhaust manifold/system. Ashley is the cheapest but can be an arse to fit.
Second hand parts you can use:
Type 9 box/RS 4 speed
RS Alloy Bellhousing
DOHC Sierra Alternator
DOHC Auto Sierra Starter Motor
Pinto Clutch
RS Escort Propshaft
2.0 Pinto Radiator.
Sierra Fuel Pump/Filter
You can make up your own wiring loom, use part of the original Zetec loom, or ready-made looms can be bought from Weber Alpha/Emerald.
You'll need high pressure fuel lines, some say 8mm, some say 10mm. You'll also need a Fuel Pressure Regulator - Retro Ford sell one.
You'll need an oil catch tank - Retro Ford sell one of these too.
There are people who will tell you it can be done much cheaper - which it can - and there are also much more expensive ways of doing it, but the way I've suggested is fairly middle of the road.
As far as I know, the Blacktop is a better overall engine, and required less jiggery pokery to get in (something to do with the water pump), so you've made a good decision there. I haven't finished my Zetec conversion yet, but it is totally worthwhile as it's great power/reliability for the money. There's probably loads that I've missed, feel free to PM me with any other questions.
