    Keeping the boot open

    Hi all,

i have cut my head open twice in a short space of time where I go to grab something out of my boot and the lid smashes down on my head!! Getting a bit fed up of it tbh, don’t want to have to wear a helmet to get something out the boot. I see there are two rods under the parcel shelf, can you adjust them somehow to strengthen them to be able to stay open?

    thanks
    kris

    Hi Kris,
You will see at either end where the rods are that you can move the rod (both sides) to a further back 'peg' this will increase the torsion on the rod and should keep the bootlid up!

The issue is usually when a car has a spoiler fitted, and it is tensioned for one without.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for that, I will have a look in the boot, I do have a spoiler fitted which I know is the reason for the boot closing. Also worried I will drop my keys in the boot and it will slam shut lol.

    Thanks

    Re: Keeping the boot open

I have just checked and the boot is already adjusted to the tightest setting, so I guess I need a helmet or a prop lol

    Thanks

You should be able to turn the rods one more rotation with a bit of grunting… this will increase their tension significantly.
Just unhook one rod and twist it 360 deg against its natural rotation until you can get it hooked in again, tensioning just one of the rods like this might be enough to hold your boot open.
Be warned, its not easy to rotate it and if it slips it can pinch or slap your hand or fingers, which isn’t nice.
