    Type 9 - 4th Gear issue

    Hi,

Me again! Been using the car a bit in the good weather. This morning, all was fine then I couldn't select 4th gear! This happened once already last week. Parked up at work and still the same, can't select 4rth, rest are fine. I read some similar threads on here, more so other gears. Is it possible it is the bush in the linkage? Does he lever just simply unbolt? (3 allen bolts) to get access to the linkage. Or is likely to e something within the box itself?

Help/Advice needed please. Pics of linkage/bushing too if possible. Job on the list is to check/change the oil. 75W 90 Semi the best grade?

Note: Some of the other gears have been getting a bit graunchy!

    Thanks
    Allan

Won't gain anything by removing the lever really the problem will more than likely be in the box itself, although you mention graunchy in all gears may be the first signs of a clutch problem. Could be a worn selector arm, synchro ring or synchro hub itself. 75/90 semi is what I use in my type nines helical or straight cut.

Great! More hassle and cost . Thing is, it was fine before, no issues and clutch was new as far as I'm aware.

    Thanks for the info

You've not put the lever bush in wrong way round have you?

    Hi,

I never built it, bought it as is. 4th gear seems to be okay again now. No idea of the cause, changing the box and diff oil tomorrow, possibly a clutch issue as noticed it of drag and difficult selecting other gears too. Change the oil first and see.

You will need something to suck the oil out of the box as it has no drain plug.

Thanks, yeah I read that, good design...

Another wee issue, think I blew a fuse whilst changing dash cluster bulbs (didn't disconnect battery). Is it No 3 fuse for the cluster illumination?

    Found on here

3.RH side and tail lamp, instrument panel lights.

    Tail lamp is working though?

Box and diff oil changed, wasn't pretty the stuff that came out! Much slicker feel now! Jacked on the chassis rails as 2 poster ramp. Solid wee motor!
