Is my pinto engine scrap- not run for years, water left in!

Have finally decided to revive the capri and the pinto turbo.

It was left no long after the little one came and as a result os a water leak, it was left with both radiator hoses off.

Anyway i went to replace the top hose and found the thermostat housing full of corrosion.

Hmm not good panic set in and the water pump removed

    Water pump corroded as well.

So is the block scrap?at the least i think i need to remove the engine and get the block pressure tested (i have a spare 205 block). My couple of month restart project has turned into an engine rebuild.

Try a good flush product to start with, bungs out of the block, rinse with water ... should be OK after !

Thank you for the replies, is this an engine out clean up?
Will need to replace the core plugs and seem to remember that there is on on the back of the block, this will mean gearbox and fly wheel off so might as well look into fitting the T5 box.

I had a pinto that was sat outside for 2 years under a sheet and looked worse than that, bit of oil down the bores and it fired up first time of asking and ran sweet, did a few oil changes and coolant flushes through it and was absolutely fine. They are tough old things Pinto's!

Agree run it and see, after cleaning out the alloy bits. Drain and fill and run again it will soon clean out.

There is a core plug at the back which does need gearbox out to change.

    Thanks all
Have run it through with some coolant flush and hot water from the kettle, turned a bit so the water pump could be run off a drill.

There are some casualties first being the metal heater return pipe on the inlet

Will have to mill it out and get a new pipe fitted.
