ap cp2577 on no-FF axle
hi all,
Looking at rear calipers and thought something like this would be good
https://www.motorsport-tools.com/esc...65mm-disc.html
Basically they look good but its indicated that they are not ok with a standard axle - does anyone know why?
That aside I have a semi-floating quaife kit and wondered if they would fit - is there something odd about the offsets that I don't see? It says between 20.6-24.6mm between the inside of the lug hole and the centre of the disc. Measuring a set of cossie rears I see the same dimension is around 11mm, so just mount at the right offset on the axle? I'm running 13x9 -24 offset wheels on the rear so pretty sure will fit under them.
Anybodies experience would be good. Is there a standard set of APs for a semi-standard rear for instance - I only see ones for FF axles.
I realise that there are other makes to, although got some CP4567's for the front and think the quality is top so would like to stay with APs all round if poss.
Cheers,
Gareth

Re: ap cp2577 on no-FF axle
opposed piston calipers dont always work on semi floating because of pad knockback due to the flex of a single bearing setup where as a fully floating set up can have opposed piston calipers because the hub ans disc are running on twin taper roller bearings and flex is not an issue.

Re: ap cp2577 on no-FF axle
thanks for the reply. Interesting, didn't cross my mind but I see your point of view. I agree that knockback could occur but the level I wouldn't be able to gauge off the top of my head. For calipers which are opposed (like the Hi-Spec cossie replacement rears) I wonder how they work out. For instance they don't specify that they don't work on a standard axle etc. I'm tempted to give em a go, can always flog them on if needs be ;-) cheers

Re: ap cp2577 on no-FF axle
its a risky move the only way you will find out is when your pedal goes to the floor a single piston caliper from the front of a family saloon is more than good enough on a rear axle.

I didn't know that 2 opposite pistons brakes have an issue on std axle.
By the way, I run Hi-spec 2 pistons on english axle !

Re: ap cp2577 on no-FF axle
it seems they tend to suffer from pad knock off, something you wont get with a vw/sierra type rear caliper with its wind back piston
the guy that i know had most trouble with it was into drifting, so you could imagine the violent tail wagging on tarmac might have a greater effect than some other uses
