Well the first 2 mentioned there use the same same machine shop for there heads so you could just go direct to the machine shop and get one........................

Personally I would ask Wayne at W.P.E to do you a head, everything is done in house there!

Not quite, the machine shops to the valve seat cutting, skims etc. but the builders do the porting.

Most engine builders will contract out machining as few have surface grinders, Serdi valce seat cutting machines etc, the skill is really in the porting not the machining unless its a cnc head, the ones i know of Vulcan and SRD do in house machining but it doesnt really matter, the key to releasing the power is in the porting, not the machining work.

    Pinto race heads

Burtons don't even build engines let alone do their own porting.

Wouldnt know, never deal with them, i think HPE do all their own porting though.

If money was no object Brookes would have to be near the top of the list. Don't expect anything cheap as his prices are very high, good workmanship though and yes everything is done in House there.

I reckon SRD heads - raised port, are as good for about £1000 less. They certainly match Brookes heads on the dyno

I get that and not every engine 'builder' has the space or the money to buy all the kit to do it all in house, burton's heads were sent next door to them to have all the work done on them as are other builders heads in todays mass produced world, I am sure there are the odd one or two heads that fettled in house..

Yes remembering having a head done by Burtons ... i turned up to pick the head up and i was early they popped round to Charlie @ CTM and picked it up.

Needless to say i then used Charlie for years and he was £150 cheaper than next door robbin fookers !!!
