    Exhaust manifold for LHD Escort

    Hello,

    in the near future I will fit a 2.0 Zetec in my mk2 Escort. I already have the Engine, Retro-Ford water-rail and enginemounts and megajolt ignition system.
    The next thing to worry about is the exhaust system. As my car is a LHD I would like to know what exhaust manifold I can use for my conversion. On ashleyexhausts.co.uk is written, that their manifold wont fit LHD cars so I am looking for an alternate manifold.

    Anyone an idea??

    I have to solve the same problem... theres my car: http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=146182

    and on this photo you can see the space for manifold
    http://uploads.turbosport.co.uk/getr...3082009682.jpg

    I have only the idea how it will look, but like it from bend tube, not 10 welds on one branch.

    I will try this man: http://rene.kramar.sweb.cz/Kitcar.htm he made roll cage for me and I saw there few manifolds of very good quality.

    Maybe I could help you, when we will make my one...

    Hello,

    thanks for your responses. The thread about the quality of the Ashleys was already in my mind.

    @milos: WOW what a buildup. My car does not nearly look like this. Great work!!!

    Let me know how you solve the problem. It seems that the famous Zetec conversion not has been done very often here on the continent. Everybody seems to have individual solutions.

    Best regards

    Re: Exhaust manifold for LHD Escort

    Did you look for zetec installations in germany and other countries? I dont understand german language, so its difficult for me to search on german websites, but I hope someone did this modification...

    When would you need the manifold? And what power or what modifications are you going for? For a road car, with lets say 150hp maximum, there can be very cheap solution based on std focus zetec manifold, but thats designed for 130hp road car...

    Here it is:

    it will be easy to connect there the manifold..

    but when Im looking for over 200hp, this is useless

    and totaly OT: dont you have an link to german sites like the turbosport is? where are some good ford projects?

    @milos:
    I wish i could name some good german websites... there are no one! I know a good danish website www.hms.dk (historisk motorsport) where folks are driving english Fords like Cortinas etc.
    But no Zetec-conversions. I neither have found some german Zetec MK1 or MK2 Escorts. VW and Opel, thats what the young guys are for. The Ford-scene seems to be small and is completely based on newer models.

    If you are looking for second hand parts then www.escort1.de and www.fomcc.de are worth visiting.

    Thanks for the pic with the focus manifold. I think this is what I am going to install untill I get a good manifold. I am in contact with "neilm". He has plans doing a LHD manifold when there is enough interest for it.

    My engine (2.0 136 horses) will not be that modified to start with: the head has been milled down a bit, lightened 1.8l flywheel, ARP con rod bolts, bike carbs with megajolt. Later I want to change the cams.

    Regards
    Björn

    Re: Exhaust manifold for LHD Escort

    I had same problem here in Finland. Finnish exhaust manufacturer made special DIY kit, they "mirror" bended manifold for pinto engined Escort and I welded it myself. It wasn't really difficult to make the clearance for steering shaft but took some time and thinking. Finally didn't need much more than re-routing no4 pipe. But this depends on the exhaust model much.

    Bjoern: yes, this focus manifold will fit and its cheap solution, I can send you this new one, but for you that will be cheaper to find one near to you...

    Tinde: thanks for inspiration! You have starter motor on oposite side, with retro ford sump there have to be starter on left side, so I havent any place between steering shaft and engine. Saw your pictures and few good solutions, I will write you an message with few questions.

    Re: Exhaust manifold for LHD Escort

    @milos. I think you are right. I´ll go to an auto-breaker and see what offer he can make me.

    @tinde:
    Good job. What oil-pan did you use? A Sierra one?
    You want to make me a copy of that
    I was thinking about buying the retro-ford kit. But it is a bit expensive...
    Making one by myself is not a good idea. I´m not a good welder.

    @all:
    Good offers for Zetec RWD oil pans to me please

    Yes, Sierra 1.8 cvh. Hard to find, at least in here.

    Re: Exhaust manifold for LHD Escort

    Hi all,

    a good friend of mine has a Mk2 with a Zetec.
    The exhaust was especially made by a local guy; you bring the car over on a friday, and on sunday-evening he has mad a one-off manifold for it!
    Maybe you can look for such a person in your country.

    Regards, Leon.

    Hello Leon, I realize a long time ago for above thread, but seeing your install. Do you use an expansion bottle for cooling, or just the large top tank radiator?
    Thanks

    On my zetec I use just a std xflow radiator with no expansion bottle and I have no cooling issues
