Time for some thing different.

I decided that after building a ruck of escorts I fancy doing some thing different

So here we go with a Fiesta,



Previous a rally car but not used for it seems many years

Not to fussed on the Pepper pots so fit a set of 6 inch minilites from my MK2 Escort but the off set is all wrong and they stick out to far

Need to find if any wheel arch extensions are avalable

Engine seems a good base to start with.

Need a few ideas as to a paint and decal scheme.

Need to change the seats as they are out of date and do not cater for the larger arse.

Just had one short blast it in and seems to go ok and hold the road well

Shell is 100% but needs painting due to the age and fadeing,, As sais need to ideas for a graphic scheme

not wishing to pick fault, but did i see fuel lines secured with hose clips inside the car? that should never pass scrutineering

Can you have the whole fuel cell inside the driver / passenger compartment then - just not using jubbly clips ? Seems a bit arse backwards if so?

any fuel lines in cockpipe have to have either be metal or have metal braiding. they can only be secured by screwed fittings. You can have a tank in the car, BUT it must be firewalled, or in a leak proof box. you cant have fuel fillers in the car. although im sure the blue book doesnt specifically say so, its rare a fuel pump would be allowed in the car, and as any kind of pressurised hydraulic component cannot be naked in the cock pit you could cover the pump with that, in anycase would you want to risk a pump spraying fuel around the cockpit?

Fair comment Graham ,,thanks for the heads up .,,so the pump need to be in a box ? . The tank is a foam filled race tank so thought it would have been ok as they have a leak proof filler

most scruts will insist the pump is in a box. i cant see the filler, but you cant run it like that if its exposed in the car, even if its in a box the filler will also need a splash bowl to collect and drain away any spilt fuel.
one last comment, the tank appears to be on rubber mounts?? a very bad idea, if you were unfortunate enough to barrell roll it with a near full tank there would be a risk of a rubber mount failing and the tank becoming airborne inside the cockpit, the tank really needs strapping securely to the floor.

because it looks like a rally car i say all this assuming you are going rallying in it, for trackdays or road use do what you like, but my advise would be the same. i dont scrutineer at rallys but i see plenty of circuit cars that have hit tyre walls and you would not believe the things that did appear to be really solidly bolted down which have broken free

Bought some larger seats but could not fit them in the position I need so had to move the battery further back and fab new seat mounts,,, Also decided to replace the nasty D shape steering wheel.

So after a bit of adjustment got them in ok

Taking on board comments which I am greatful for I decided to find and fit an original type tank ,, Obviously I need to find a tank ,,I note some have the pump inside the tank ?? I also need a sender unit and will possibly relocate the pump into the engine bay ,,,

most of these were injected and had in tank fuel pumps, you could use an intank pump to feed a swirl pot fitted in the engine bay and feed the carbs with a facte from the swirl pot, you would need a return from the swirl pot back to the tank
