DVLA proof of engine

I have just swapped my 1.6 crossflow for a 1.8 zetec, i sent off my v5 with the details of the change ie size and engine number however i got a letter back from the DVLA saying they need evidence of the engine size ect.
I spoke to my local ford dealer and gave them my engine numbers however they said they could not help as there was no data base!?
Has anyone else had a similar problem? i would take the car to a local garage but i dont have a current MOT and no v5 as the DVLA have it.

Last year I sold a V8 out of a van to a friend who fitted it in the back of his VW Transporter

He had similar problems with the DVLA as he'd put it down as a 3528cc and the van it came from had 3500cc on the logbook

Luckily I still had the van's logbook so he sent a copy of that off to the DVLA and they were happy

So I suppose if you could find out what car it came from then that would help

The problem i have is its a brand new creat engine bought second hand, i put it down on the v5 change as a 1796cc as per the info i have found on the net, i could have put it down as a 1.8 as cast in the block however i race and it could mean at some events i may get put into a higher class

Heard about this before. The easy way is with a log book from the old car, but as yours is new i dont know. But Ford should have some record of it being built.

Just invent a garage name and make up some headed paper, they'll accept a reciept for the job as proof, probably best if you can find a real garage to do it for you but i know people who have made up their own several times with no bother.

I take it the new engine has no number as of yet?
Try a breakers yard for a car with the same engine and use that cars engine number/reg on the letter your "garage" sends back as proof

If you live 5 mins from the MoT centre,drive down...not really the best advice.
Or,have someone tow you down.
What do Ford mean,they don't have data base? Surely they could have entered it in Mcat...mind you,they would need the complete VIN. Would you have the complete VIN? Let me know what the engine number is,hoping you have the first two letters before the numbers

I had the same problem on my escort van it said 1300 on log book but now has a 2.0 litre pinto in it,i wrote to dvla and sent off my log book stating change of engine and had to get a reciept from garage stating that the engine was fitted and engine no etc.I went to the main dvla centre and they sorted it out. hope this helps

Just get a Local Garage to write a letter, on headed paper, stating that they 'Have inspected the vehicle & can confirm that the engine is a ????cc and runs on ?????? fuel and the engine No. is ??????????? ' send this to the DVLA & they will send you out a new V5 with the correct details on it.
Or if you don't mind paying a bit more to get it done, the DVLA will accept an RAC or AA Inspection report as well, as evidence of the Engine change.
