    Getting my pinto plans together!!!

Currently have a 2.0 pinto 205 block ported head standard valves, and a ph4 cam

im wanting to take this out complete carbs ignition ect and store it away,

i have a complete short 20 block and I’m going to strip it down and refresh it. And use this for the build.

i have a set of twin 45’s and a gems? Big valve head and a ht1e can shaft,

i know the cam needs a fair amount of compression to work correctly so I’ve been looking at forged rods and high compression pocketed pistons to get me to around 11.5:1 but will have to work it all out as I still might need the block skimming. As I’m aware standard pistons won’t take this.

the cam shaft is ment to have a power band of 3000/7750rpm is the pinto crank up to this or will it be the week link?

whats a realistic power out out for an engine of this spec? Sling as the head has a good port job.

Crank will be fine, make sure you dowel the flywheel. I run a Ht1e in a stage 4 head with 45.5mm inlets, Pec 136mm rods and short 92mm Wossner pistons, on 48's with 40mm chokes and a really good SRD manifold my engine makes just over 190hp, power doesn't really come on until about 3700 with an HT1e, you can make them behave ok at lower revs with some careful carb tuning, just dont expect to snap open the throttle at lower revs. I have around 12;1 compresion, decked block, machined to accept wire rings to reinforce the fire ring on the Reinz gasket.

as above, pinto crank will be fine, but you need to dowel the flywheel to it, power wise you should be over 180bhp

If it's a gems head check the porting or get a pic up. As they do sell part done heads, check the short turn on the inlets .is it std valves ??

I 'll say once again what I have said before in another post In a Gems advert it says that their Big Valve heads are left un-ported for customers to finish off to their own requirements. Perhaps that's why the head in question was n't up to expectation or maybe someone else has had a go at it.

So they machine the valves and dont touch the ports? how much do they charge for a head given thats the easy part?

as has been said it may of been deliberate.

the one i saw the ports and throats had been bored on a milling machine, but there was no hand blending or work to put a radius on the where the ports and throats met, so with both being bored bigger than standard there was a sharp square 90 degree corner to the short turn, which flowed less than a standard head. i get the point about part finished, but if so it would actually of been better not to touch the port at all.

running a finger over the short turn will soon tell you if its one of those part finished heads

Give them a ring, I am sure they'll discuss prices.
