    Cosworth oil pump

    Hi !

I bought an oli pump with pick up pipe.

I was told that it's uprated ( Group A ) oil pump from YB engine.

For me it looks like standard 2WD Cosworth pump but I will be also happy with that becouse I want to install it in modified Pinto engine.

    Some pics then...

    What do You think ?

    Re: Cosworth oil pump

why do you want to use it in a pinto? theres nothing wrong with a std pinto oil pump you can shim them for higher pressure if you really must but there are many race engines out there on std pinto pumps

    Mr. Graham Bahr.

Thank You for quick reply .

I know there is nothing wrong with a standard Pinto oil pump but I've heard that it is good to use Cosworth pick up pipe on modified Pinto ( and also Coworth oil pump in result ) becouse of it's "injectors" that cover bottoms of the pistons with oil and help to reduce engine temperature and support lubrication.

What do You think Mr. Graham Bahr ?

    Re: Cosworth oil pump

then theres absolutely no point in using the cosworth spray bar,

std pinto rods have oil squirters built in to them and std cast pistons have big oil slots in them so you might find you have a problem with high oil consumption as the oil control rings struggle to cope with so much oil being thrown at them

    Re: Cosworth oil pump

    Thank You Mr. Graham Bahr.

    Now I understand.

And when I'll go for Cosworth YB and proper piston to suit ?

And when I get some benefits of Cosworth spray bar in atmo carbed Pinto.

    Thanks a lot !

    Re: Cosworth oil pump

maybe, the main benifit of the spray bar is to cool the underside of the pistons in turbo engines, they are rather ott for non turbos, linford, dave whites race atmo pinto has steel rods and forged pistons but no spraybar, my bmw engines the same

    Re: Cosworth oil pump

A Group A pump on a cosworth was simply a standard pump with the clearences carefully measured and corrected and an 85PSI spring fitted..... so how can you tell now ? compare the spring with a standard Cosworth one >!
