I am after your thoughts. My Pinto dry sump system has an AN10 line from the pump to the block. Previously I have measured the oil temp using a sender in the oil filter housing that is in the boot in the return line. For various reasons I have decided to move the temp sensor before the engine. I therefore bought an AN10 female fitting that has a 1/8" NPT port for the sensor. However, when I screwed the sensor in I have 2 issues;
- the sensor tip is too long by a few mm
- the sensor tip appears to block too much of the AN10 oilway
Firstly, I have never ground the tip on one of these sensors so does anybody know how much metal there is in the tip that could be removed?? I don't want to destroy what was an expensive sensor just to trial and error it. The thermistor inside the brass is small but I don't know if it is in the tip or in the guts.
Secondly, do you think it is blocking the oil flow too much? I think it is and that it will restrict flow and probably cause the pump to 'see' a higher pressure and therefore incorrectly start by-passing. Depending on how much I can grind off the tip and/or sides I may be able to make this work. The other option would be to use an AN12 fitting with an expander one side and a reducer the other but the more fittings there are the more issues you can have.
