Need a Pinto oil pump drive

Arrg.. I can't believe it, the machine shop lost my oil pump drive, and I've been looking for a few weeks now and there are just no scrap Pinto motors over here.. they only made them for three years from 71 to 73 and only for the pinto cars, so they're getting pretty thin on the ground!

If somebody has a spare oil pump drive rod and is willing to send it to me, I'd be happy to pad your paypal account a bit or whatever..

Try burtons, they have new ones and will send OS easy peasy. Look under cosworth YB for some reason not SOHC

Not sure what all the discussion is about. FOC seems like a good price to me

Why would you have loads of new pump drives knocking around?

also a very good and inexpensive solution. have you ever had any wear issues with the allen key?

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

the only problem i could see with using an allen key is that if you have lost the origonal drive you wont know what length to cut you key down to

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

The allen key idea seems good as it should have a high tensile rating, one thing I don't like about the std pump drive is the round clip that stops the drive from coming out of the block when installed with the pump, this clip means you cannot change the pump drive, without the clip you can change the pump drive whenever you like which is much better, just make sure it doesn't drop out of the dissy if you take it out, the engine would run with no oil pressure!

U can replace the old pump drive, use a longnose pliers and just pull, takes some tugging but it comes out.

Is that after the clip finally falls off?
(I didn't even know there was a clip)

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

That is a bad idea DarthVader

The clip will fall down around the oil pump, you would have to be very lucky for it to line up with the new drive, it would more likely block the new drive from going in at all, and if it did go in the clip will be rattling around the place in there.

I wouldn't advise that at all.....

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

i guess you retreve the clip with a magnetic stick , then run without one which wouldnt be any real issue

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

You can't retrieve the clip when it has a larger diameter than the hole in the block!

Some of the aftermarket pump drives have clips that are smaller than the hole in the block.

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

I asked Graham to send me out a drive, and offered to pad his beer account, so thank's everyone. I just spent the afternoon doing my christmas package delivery run with the cortina, the new pinto motor runs super sweet with the Kent Fr30 cam and a single 45 Delorto.. I robbed the pump drive from my daughters Pinto, and she seems to want to be able to drive her car sometime soon!

I would have tried the allen key trick if i had known, but I doubt i could find an allen key long enough.. Mine are all way too short ( must be a Canadian thing..)

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

Hey guys, sorry to bother, but maybe you know which way is correct to put the driveshaft if it's with a lock? Because i am rebuilding pinto, and i kinda forgot. As i remember i should be shorter side to the dizzy, but i found in this forum someone said otherwise. Maybe someone knows 100% ? Or should i just remove that lock ?

Re: Need a Pinto oil pump drive

apparently without the clip the drive can rattle up and down making a noise at tickover, not something i have heard though.

what i do to fit the drive is position the clip towards one end, put the end without the clip in the oil pump and then fit the pump, fitting the pump will push the clip to where its needs to be
