    Atlas CWP setup

    Hi all,
I've collected my atlas axle, and I wonder if it has be setted up correctly about pinion/crown wheel.
As I've seen around, contact is not done at the middle

I would also suppose the contact would be in the middle ...

That contact patch is on the coast side not the drive side - it does look to be out of the ideal place for the coast side but you need to check to see how the drive side compares. Sometimes compromises have to be made when CWP's are worn - ie get a good drive side contact patch and have it slightly noisy on over-run (ie coast side).

Thanks, I'll check again on the drive side.
The cwp is brand new, and a Ford one ! (from Fostek old stock)

    Re: Atlas CWP setup

Ok, if it's a new Ford one then there shouldn't be any issue in getting it to mesh correctly if the proper procedure is followed. I have the feeling that the drive-side contact patch won't be in the correct place looking at your picture.

Have you checked the backlash figure? Is it in spec? Did a person familiar with Atlas axles set it up?

I didn't check the backlash, the builder should be familiar as he's doing such think since a while, but I think he's just making easy money.
That's a pitty to have someone serious in Belgium. And if it's a correct guy or company, it takes ages to have the job done.

    Thanks, contacts are always welcome.
I've checked the backlash, it's in the range. I have difficulties to see the contact on drive side, I don't have good stuff to see.
I've checked with grease but not easy to read.
By the way, I've ordered a complete axle in UK. I'll have a spare one just in case...

Use Engineers' blue for checking contact patch. If it is hard to see a pattern add a little oil to the blue. If still no patch then there isn't one to see!

Who have you asked to build your axle?

They know what they're doing, you shouldn't go wrong there.
Is that the new aluminium casing, or new cast iron ones with complete new CDS tubes?

Have seen new cast iron ones with new CDS tubes from RACE (Stoke) and they look nice. Just waiting to see what they're like once built up into a finished axle.

    Re: Atlas CWP setup

no classic casing, new thick tube double pinned. halfshafts come from RACE
    I don't think it's a new casing.
The one I have is a new from gartrac.
Is it better a new, or old.... hum, if it's like a MK2 shell...
