Hi. Well, I'm over the moon to have picked up a very good 205 engine from a 1990 Gen3 Ford Transit here in Australia. They are not an easy block to find!
I already have a boosted pinto, (EB block) making 300 at the tyres and it's a reliable package so no plans to change anything but I would like some more advice about what to do with this spare motor.
Original thoughts were to get used YB rods & pistons again but that would leave me with the same problem I had to overcome with the current motor. YB rods & pistons with a 2.0L pinto head gives around 7:1CR (Credit to Graham). I got around it by using a 1.6L pinto head which got ported, big valves and cam. Now, 1.6L pinto heads are ALSO very hard to find here in Aust. The one I have came from New Zealand. There's also the added cost of porting, big valves etc.
So I'd like to use the standard 2L head that came on the 205 motor with same profile cam that's in my current pinto. And maybe a set of Maxspooling rods ($280AUD) which leaves the pistons.
Last time this topic was covered I recall someone saying there was a place in Italy that makes custom pistons to suit any application. But I'm no engine builder so I don't feel confident in providing exact piston measurements & specifications. I see Wossner do high compression piston & rod kits for the YB but it says NA only. Are the pistons any different from the turbo kits they sell? I've only seen a 12.5:1 kit which would still be too high with the 2.0L head.
