    205 Block- turbo build

Hi. Well, I'm over the moon to have picked up a very good 205 engine from a 1990 Gen3 Ford Transit here in Australia. They are not an easy block to find!
I already have a boosted pinto, (EB block) making 300 at the tyres and it's a reliable package so no plans to change anything but I would like some more advice about what to do with this spare motor.
Original thoughts were to get used YB rods & pistons again but that would leave me with the same problem I had to overcome with the current motor. YB rods & pistons with a 2.0L pinto head gives around 7:1CR (Credit to Graham). I got around it by using a 1.6L pinto head which got ported, big valves and cam. Now, 1.6L pinto heads are ALSO very hard to find here in Aust. The one I have came from New Zealand. There's also the added cost of porting, big valves etc.

So I'd like to use the standard 2L head that came on the 205 motor with same profile cam that's in my current pinto. And maybe a set of Maxspooling rods ($280AUD) which leaves the pistons.

Last time this topic was covered I recall someone saying there was a place in Italy that makes custom pistons to suit any application. But I'm no engine builder so I don't feel confident in providing exact piston measurements & specifications. I see Wossner do high compression piston & rod kits for the YB but it says NA only. Are the pistons any different from the turbo kits they sell? I've only seen a 12.5:1 kit which would still be too high with the 2.0L head.

DP Pistons in greece are normally the ones that are recommended and will help you spec the piston

Thanks I just messaged them. They don't rate the maxspeeding rods at all. Are they really that bad? Would standard YB rods be better? That's all I'm using in my current engine. The thing is, standard used rods will most likely cost the same as new maxspeeding rods

    I think this is it:

I was thinking similar question like you and had some thoughts about standard YB rods + flat top piston from DP performance. It would give the same compression ratio as stock engine has (9,2 or similar) which perhaps could be OK.

Currently I'm running YB rods + pistons and 1,4mm skimmed head. I didn't measure chamber volume but according to some literature I should have 8-8,5 CR with such head. The engine feels quite OK on 98 octane gasoline.

Lost of MX5 turbo setups using them, also a build on here using them with DP pistons - http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1337758 - and I have them in my setup too, although I havent run it yet. IMO maxspeeding rods are at their worst, no worse than yb rods.

DP obviously can make you a rods and piston package, but then its a lot more expensive than just pistons from them and DP rods.

DP was quite good in supporting me with the pistons. I did not dicuss rods with them however.

I have not put too many miles on my engine but the rods seemed fine to me and survived a rather intense dyno session. Main reason I choose them was because I made a calculation error on the compression ratio though - so I needed 1 mm longer rods. Otherwise my plan was the YB rods I already had.

I also have to point out that the DP pistons (specially designed) were no more expensive than off the shelf YB pistons. A good deal in that sense.

My forged pistons are from Special Piston Services in Dandenong Vic. Will be using them with maxspeed when I finally get around to assembling the engine.
