    Line lock on rear brakes

Hi everyone, havent posted in ages, still own my escort Although its been sorn for a few years.

Can you fit a line lock valve to the rear brake line, so that you close the valve then you can use the front brakes only to do a rolling burnout ? Or with the line lock closed would you just not be able to push the pedal down? This is with a bias pedal box

    thanks
    Justin

if you put a line lock in the rear circuit you may find you have to push much much harder to get enough effort to the front brakes because you will be pushing against the locked off rear circuit which wont move at all.

you could also do it the other way round which i think would probably work better, fit the line lock in the front circuit, push the pedal hard to apply the front brakes, apply the lock and release pedal, that will leave the fronts locked on are rear free

Should work fine, locking off the line to the rear won’t change the pressure in the front circuit, pedal travel will be less but the front brakes will work ok.

Re: Line lock on rear brakes

i once lost a rear brake in a practise before a race, unable to fix it i locked off the rears, the pedal on my bias box was almost solid the brakes still worked, but i needed super human pressure to stop come the race, but i suppose in this case there's no racing just keeping the fronts locked whilst stationary

Just get the rear wheels lit up then cover the brake pedal gently with your left foot.

Isn't this how most people would do such a thing.

Re: Line lock on rear brakes

I have done it both ways but the "preferred" way is to have the line lock on the front circuit, just as Graham says. That is the way "all" dragracers do it.

I think it is easier to have both feet free for clutch and throttle action ;-)

Thanks for all the replies guys, i knew most people would say just fit it to the fronts, but where i have never had a line lock fitted im used to releasing the clutch then moving my left foot to the brake pedal, it works great so fitted to the rear means im not just wasting the rear pads. When the cars back on the road after i have fixed all of the things i hated about the car i will report back.
