    Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire

This is my latest purchase. It's a 1989F Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth in Moonstone blue, 78,000 miles, 6 owners, the last for over 15 years! Standard car except for a Scorpion stainless exhaust, 4x4 bonnet and an alarm. Even the radio is original.

The owner took it off the road about 6 years ago for brakes, wheel refurb, new tyres and some paint. He bought new front and rear calipers, discs and hoses took the old tyres and exhaust off and that's as far as he got. House renovation took over and the car just sat gathering dust in his garage. He now wants to move so sold it too me.

I had to borrow my brothers old RS alloys to get it rolling and onto the recovery truck. It is very original and in good condition under the dust.

The bonnet, boot and bumpers definately want painting but the rest should mop up well.

My plans are to get it MOT'd. If there are no unforseen dramas I will be using it and see if it floats my boat!
Bearing in mind it needs a bit of work the price I paid was fair enough! You don't come across unmolested versions like this very often and the modified versions aren't really me to be honest. Must be my age!
Looks a bit better after a good wash.

    Good find matey,

Im looking for a RWD Saff at the Minute and your right, you just cant find them like that. They're either tuned up to F*ck, up in Scotland or complete nails.
    Hope you enjoy it!

    Re: Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire

    Right, a slight up date.

After hassling Darren, I bought the Cossie off him in February and have been meaning to update but just hadn't got round to it yet.

I'm still majorly chuffed with it as its proper straight and i only found a few bits of rust.

After initially just wanting to run the car and get a few parts painted i did, as is normally the way, decide to get the whole thing done instead. So as the pictures show i went abit to town and thought id do tit properly. It was going to schedule up until march when i got stuck in Oz for longer than planned because of the volcano going off. After this i cracked on with dismantling it and sent it off for paint... painting it then took 2 months! Which just about brings me up to present day.

So see what you think and hope the pictures work

And some of it after it was painted.

I shall also try not to leave it 10 months before next updating.

They're of my missuses Escort so they're only 14inch. The reason they had to go round was the splash shields on the rear were too big to fit inside. I did have them on the correct way on the front and that was a big mistake...cos theres no discs on it the wheels suck to the rad on the hub and kinda tapered themselves stuck!

Had to make a puller to get them off. NIGHTMARE!!!

    Hi Darren,

Yes there will be some updates soon. I've got to sort through a load of the pictures first. But the Loom, Engine an box are back in and i've had it running!

The whole thing has gone abit mental but im really happy with how its turned out and should have it MOT'd in the next couple of months.

    Pics soon - I promise.

    Cheers

    Re: Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire

So, after 2.5 years without a post I thought I'd put some final pics up of my Saph all finished.

I sold the Saph in November 2013 as we were emigrating in Jan. I would have loved to bring her here but it was just too much. I'm sorted with a couple of Mk2's now so no point in dwelling too much on that. To say I'm missing it though would be an understatement. Anyway, I digress. I was told when I sold the car that it was a keeper, only for my brother to spot it on the KGF classics website a few months later.

It's a shame to think of it getting passed about but at least two positives came from the KGF sale. Hopefully it went to a caring owner who wants a good example and therefore will be looked after. And secondly they took some amazing pictures of her and I now have a massive collection of professionally taken photo's that I nicked from their advert.

So here is the finished article, all in it took me 2.5 years to finish but loved every minute. Everyone told me I'd regret meeting my Teenage Dream and to go and get a Scooby or Evo but I can honestly say I'm glad I didn't as what I ended up was fucking awesome!!

    So check out the pics and tell me what you think;

Finally, If anyone knows the whereabouts of the car or could put me in touch with the owner, please give me a shout. Would love to hear how he/she is getting on with it.

    Cheers,

Cheers mate, I must admit the level I went to got a bit out of hand but it was well worth it. I like to think it was showroom condition in that it's been future proofed compared to a lot of 'original' Cossie's. Everything on it was either new or re-furbished.

    Cheers,

    Re: Sierra RS Cosworth Sapphire

Cheers Dave, that's true about maintaining it. But as long as you kept on top of it it wasn't too bad as everything was fresh.

I would not be adverse to trying and Evo or Scooby at all. It was more that when I said I wanted a Cossie people couldn't get their heads around why I'd do that over the former two. Thing was I wasn't trying to build an Evo eating Cossie like most seem to want. I'd just always wanted a 2WD moonstone Saph since I was about 14
