    Braided brake lines

    Hi guys

Ive just put together my bias pedal box ready to go in the car and now its time to think about brake lines, could i run braided brake lines theough the whole car instead of solid? Are you allowed to use compression fittings or would i be better off getting these made up by a hose company?

    thank you
    justin

nothing wrong with running braided throughout. from what perspective are you asking about compression fittings? allowed by who? if your talking proper goodridge type hoses, i wouldnt be concerned whether i had my mot tester or scrutineers hat on

Did all my lines in braided a lot easier to work with.

I know they're obviously a lot better but I always thought there was something about the fact that you weren't allowed to have the braid showing.

ditto, more expensive but far easier to work with. The ends are pretty easy to do once you have the knack and spiked your fingers a few times.

i see your talking mot/construction and use, that's why you can buy braided hose with a plastic over coat its mot compliant. i dont know many testers who would actually fail uncoated braided, clearly its meant to be like that fir sure if you can see the braiding in a rubber hose thats another matter altogether

Yea that would be it then. Funnily enough I didn't know you could get plastic coated braided hose. My car did have braided hose on it and it never failed the mot either. But it was last tested about 12-13 yrs ago..

    Re: Braided brake lines

    Hey guys

It was more to do with the fittings, i know very little on the subjust i have made plenty of solid lines in the past but i have read a lot of posts saying dont use compression fittings on braided line, then ive read lots saying they are fine so im a bit lost? There was one post that read "why not to use braided compression fittings" and there was disaster storys, so its a case of running full braids ok but are the compression fittings ok or get professional made?

    Re: Braided brake lines

There's no reason what so ever to put expensive braided pipes inside the car instead of the traditional solid type apart from the ease of fitment. Fit solid ones and braided pipes for the 3 flexible ones and save yourself a lot of money. However if you decided to go the braided pipe route get them made up by a company like Hell with proper crimped on ends, that way you'll have peace of mind that the ends won't either leak or blow off.

    Re: Braided brake lines

Personally i've made hundreds of brake hose lines for bikes where failure has potentially more fatal consequences than for a car and never had a single failure - covered and uncovered braid, alloy, zinc plated or stainless steel fittings. One issue with un-coated braid is that it will 'saw' its way through most objects with contact and vibration. Personally for a car, i'd use hard lines between front and back then use flexi braided to corners and to master cylinders.

    Re: Braided brake lines

Just spent the w/e making a full set of Black Plastic covered lines with black alloy fittings for my Escort. About 3 times the cost of solid but looks so much better and easy to do.

Speak to Mitch at Pro-line Motorsport he can make you what you need, full lines, half a car, just fronts etc. All braided with the plastic over coat in any colour you like and all swaged fittings too so no leaks. 07535 857 608 tell him Dan South gave you his number and he will look after you, he is near Gatwick airport but can post no issues.
