My radiator on my mk2 escort is boiling hot at the top but the bottom hose is stone cold....ive flushed the radiator with a garden hose before i fitted it and the water washed right through with no probs...any ideas.....ive just finished building the engine

It should be colder on the bottom hose, maybe working very well. Does the engine overheat ?

They ain't THAT good! - most rads can only manage a delta between top and bottom of 10-20 degrees when up to temp.

I ran it for about 5 minutes.. the engine was hot but there was no heat coming through the vents and the temp gauge looks dead....the top of the radiator was red hot but it didnt over heat

Is the thermostat even opening then? Stick it in a saucepan to find.

^^^ That and potentially a massive air lock as hot water should flow round the heater matrix continuously even when stat is closed.

With the stat closed the Pump should push it through the engine, through the heater matrix and back to the bottom hose via a t piece. Is the top hose cold where it goes into the stat housing?

Maybe the heater matrix is blocked.

Think my issue was to do with the wires on the vent that i recently posted about.....ive ran it for 15 -20 minutes at a time with a cold bottom pipe and absolutely no overheating or bubbling
