    Fuel gauge wiring help

    Hi the fuel gauge in my mk2 mexico is not working so i have a smiths one alongside temp and oil gauge in centre consol but i need help with wiring.i have smiths voltage regulator which i know when fixed is the earth.the live feed goes to terminal marked b then from terminal marked i that goes to the gauge BUT where does the wire from sender in the tank go.remember im bypassing the original gauge in my dash.

    Is it a 'standalone / aftermarket smiths gauge? If so, its likely to be 12v so don't need a voltage reg. Gauge will get 12v to one terminal and the other connected to tank sender with tank sender body earthed. Easy test connect up and touch the sender wire to earth - gauge should indicate full. If the gauge tries to read minus then reverse the connections on back of gauge.
