Cams, cams and more cams... But which one suits me best?
Hi all.
I am rebuilding an early 1600 crossflow (from a mk2 Cortina). The head is rebuild and i am looking at what Cam to go with. Its not a GT head but i want to pep it up a touch without going silly. It will run 1300 hepolite pistons and a 32/36 DGV carb.
Any recommendations? I was thinkng high torque.??
Whats better just the cam or full kit?

Do you have flat pistons and chambered head ?

I have chambered pistons and head. The engines existing 1600cc pistons have larger bowls than my new hepolites though. I suspect i will aim fir the 224 (what i was eyeing up) and new lifters but thats all.

If you have chambered head AND pistons, you have more clearance so a 234 cam will fit also ! What is the compression you will end up ?

Good question. I need to work it out. More than stock, less than 1300cc pistons in a 1600 with flat head is the short answer
A quick finger in air assumption is about 9.5:1 (Stock is 9:1, 1300 pistons and a flat head is around 10:1 iirc).

You can skim the head a little, put the valves at it's deepest and go for the 234 cam, for the 9.5/1 compression I think the 224 will work great !
