    MK1 Escort suspension questions again...........

So, I'm bringing up an old question/discussion about suspension. Now, on the back end of Kermit I have the old style shocks/dampers (45 deg) with leaf springs and a panhard rod.
Nothing over the top and the springs are single leaf that I acquired a long time ago from a good friend on here, Trig

I've done quite a few trackdays now and I feel like the back end is too stiff! I don't know if it's because I'm driving it too hard, or I'm expecting too much out of it and maybe it's as good as it can be but I've experienced it 'hopping' on the back end and when I come out of a corner it's really easy to spin the tires up.

This may be a case of different problems? It does feel like the inside rear wheel is unloaded coming out of the corner and then spinning, maybe the LSD isn't doing it's job? (Plate LSD not torque biasing) but the back end does hop/bounce skip around a bit and a friend following me said he could see that and even commented on us looking at the suspension this winter.

I was thinking about changing the springs and maybe going for some softer versions? The CD6's are supposed to be 85lb I believe?

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts? I'm not going to do anything that involves cutting up the car and welding it, at least not at the moment

    Cheers

    Dazzle

sound like you have axle tramp! you probably need better rear dampers and stiffer front springs.

what tyres make/size and front spring rates are you using

Properly set up plate LSD shouldn’t really spin up and inside wheel, check the preload, also could just be tyres

exactly what graham says,it will be the springs winding up then releasing,
im running the same set up as you but with an aframe and anti roll bar,the leaf springs are 145 and gaz dampers, copes well with the power
with what you have, there is nothing but the leaf springs to stop the axle winding up and it will be worse if it has lowering blocks

If it's hoping around corners it's a classic sign that your rear shockers are knackered. Is the car fitted with tramp bars? Normally axle tramp is at it's worst on take up of the drive train when all the available power's applied the the rear wheels.
