Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

My Y reg Nissan Cabstar engine has blown up. The engine code is TD27T. Where might I find a replacement for this? ie. are there any other vehicles with the same engine I could swap from?

    Thanks in advance

    Thank you Gentlemen.
A Cabstar engine is £1500 second hand (if you can find one)
A Terrano/Maverick engine is £500 second hand, and plenty about.

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

Its the same engine in the LTi Fairway taxi and the TX1 except without the turbo. What tends to happen is the combustion chamber drops out of the head and smashes the piston. a common fault on this engine. Usually the head is scrap and just one piston. If the damage isnt too bad it can be salvaged. My fairway carried on running for over 600,000 milesand was still running when I sold it.

Yep, I would agree with all of that. The engine had only done 50k

Get the lowest mileage engine you can find.It should run for years if its any good. Stick some slick 50 in the oil to give it a helping hand as well. Terrano or Maverick engine should be the same. 50,000 miles is low for it to go bang! How bad is it damaged?

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

Are either of those taxi engines turbo?
Also, are all Terrano and Maverick engines "fly by wire"? (mine isn't)
My truck is with a mechanic, and he can't find anyone yet to say that an engine out of any of the above will definitely fit. Especially as mine isn't "fly by wire" and the only Terrano he has come acros was.
It has been nearly 3 months now and I want my truck back.

It is very nice, and a lot smarter than any of the vehicles our lot have.
The gearbox has given up and apparently it is a £2k job minimum so not worth it.
It has already had the interior stripped and has been dropped off at mine to get the engine out. Saves paying someone else to do it.

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

No, nothing to do with me.
My last Cabstar lasted for 15 years and did 250k miles before it eventually fell to pieces.
The engine was never touched at all except for a set of glow plugs. These modern engines seem to be a bit crap in comparison.
There is a very strong export market for the engines apparently, which makes them hard to get hold of.

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

Theres a big demand for the Nissan engines to use in taxis as well. The Nissan engines that were used by LTI were all non turbo. They eventually dropped them and went onto use Ford Duratorq diesels that were in the transits. This engine was a huge problem for LTI as it was for Ford with timing chain problems and flywheels. Consequently people with the Ford engined TX2 have been looking for Nissan engines to replace them with.
Not sure if the gearbox in the taxi was same as the one used in the Terrano/Maverick but if it is, there are a few places in liverpool that will rebuild the gearboxes ,and I don't think they are hugely expensive to rebuild. I've heard of volvo bearings being used as replacements.

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

The taxi engines werent fly by wire. In fact they didnt really fly very fast at all! And as far as I know the early Mavericks and Terranos werent fly by wire either. The engine is indirect injection with a combustion chamber set into the head on each cylinder. They didnt use electronic injection either. There are still plenty of LTI Fairways and TX1's in use with the Nisssan 2.7 engine in. All will have done massive miles by now unless they are working in London.

Re: Any Nissan Cabstar engine experts on here?

    A bit of an update.
Me and Fred set about stripping the engine out.
    Got the intercooler off,
    Got the alternator off
Got the power steering pump off
Disconnected the myriad of electrical connections
Disconnected all the air conditioning wizardry
disconnected the starter (wouldn't like to have to change one of them!)
Went to the other farm to collect the engine crane
    Had a brew
Just getting the engine crane hitched up ready to get the last bits undone when we had a phone call.
"Don't bother getting that engine out. It's fooked!

I took the engine out of the 4x4 and delivered it to the mechanic. I had to wait for him to fit it.
It is all up and running, smokes a bit when cold, but other than that runs very well. Probably injector or summat because it feels like it is missing a bit too (only when cold)

That's what I was thinking, OR a bit of dirt in an injector, dodgy leak off pipes,or slight air leak on a union.

Hey , I know this is an old thread so am sorry if im annoying anyone but im in a bind that if I dont fix will see my new business close and me filing for bankruptcy. I have recently opened a Mobile coffee business with a Cabstar (2001) ... Engine shit the load and like with you guys in the UK most cabstars here are exported. so just to clarify .... The engine that you jerry rigged into the cabstar , was it a Teranno ? Was there any other engine that could have worked (sweet F all terannos over here) ? and lastly what was the year of the terrano? appreciate any help

6 years later, I still have the truck, still going strong and still smokes like feck when cold.
Grandson asked if it was on fire this week when he saw it.
