New cams, Reshimming Blacktop Zetec, (Duratec RS)

    Hello,

I've got some new cam's from Ian Howell to match the turbo he sorted out for me,

The cams in at the minute have a smaller base circle (35mm), think they are a regrind, but the new cams have a base circle the same as the stock engine, 36mm, obviously im going to need to reshim the head,

I've been thinking about doing it myself as im doing most other things on my build except the mapping,

or if i dont do it myself and use the local head shop, do you guys have any info / tips to pass on?

also my head has had quite a bit of work done on it, oversized valves, springs etc etc, if this makes any difference

I enjoyed shimming the cams up in my blacktop, just need the standard 5mm bar and ideally a TDC pin, ( i didn't bother with this)

Turned out new shims from Ford worked out cheaper than getting the old ones ground down, I think they were about £1.70 a piece.

This sheet may help with keeping things in order.

Thanks for that sheet scutter, hopefully come in handy, im heading down to my local head shop see what they quote for fitting and shimming new cams and also double checking TDC, hopefully it will be a simple enough job for them to do, not too sure how many modified heads they have dealt with in their time but will soon find out,

Not sure if the Zetec uses the same bucket sizes/depth as the Duratec, but if it does, this tool is excellent to optimise your buckets and save time

My problem is with the current cams being a regrind they have a base circle of 35mm which is smaller than stock 36mm base circle,

the new cams are for a 36mm base circle same as stock,

so i need to reshim them and lose 1mm from the followers
