    MX5 Gearbox propshaft Q

Ok guys stockpiling the bits i need to install my duratec with Mk3 mx5 gearbox. I need a propshaft so the obvious is the mazda mk3 one but these are going for £90 on ebay and i only need the gearbox end so i can get a one piece made up to match the ford axle.

Do earlier models use the same spline/ diameter etc or what other cars would use this size ? or does anyone no a supplier so i can buy just the gearbox end ?

    thanks

There's a propshaft company near Heathrow airport who would have the end you require. They made my rx8 to English with new parts

Any good driveshaft shop should have a book with all the applications of driveshaft components. They'll sell you both ends of the driveshaft so you can put both in you car and measure the center to center on the yokes so they can make up and ballance one for you. Make them do the work of figuring out what the yoke should be, that way if you get the wrong one the first time they'll be on the hook to get you the right one.

I was hoping that there may be other Mazda applications that used the same spline etc, that way I could get a second hand one for now a lot cheaper. A complete prop for the mk3 seems quite expensive just to chop the end off.

I mailed the last company who did me a really good job but had no reply yet. I might phone them as sometimes you mail a general address and nobody looks at it for weeks. I also have a mate who owns a parts shop he may be able to get me one.

Why would you cut one up? The individual parts are cheap and the driveshaft shop is going to use a new weldon yoke and u joint.

Why not buy an MX5 prop and just use it by putting a new joint on the back end?
Otherwise find someone breaking an RX8, those things are worth peanuts so a prop shouldn't be worth much. You'll be surprised what they're made of too and be wishing you could fit that instead....
