twin 40 and twin 45 DCOE help needed.

I have 2 project cars both running 1700 crossflow engines

First is a 711m with forged pistons heat treated crank rods etc kent 244 camshaft gas flowed stage 2 head. This engine has twin 45's fitted it runs like a pig lots of spitting back and progression from idles to mains is not smooth it also smokes at idle and off throttle so needs a top end rebuild its been run with these carbs on for a few thousand miles but no idea if its been running well on them as I have only just got the car.

My second car's engine is newly built 711m 83.5 Accralite pistons steel rods steel crank 244 camshaft stage 3 head etc this is on 40's this engine has only been run for 1/2 hour or so to bed the cam.

The first car I will be selling just need to get it up and running properly and a few issues sorted. But the second car is hopefully a keeper this will be used for the odd track day a bit of sprinting and spirited country road driving.

Would there be any benefit swapping the 45's over to the all steel engine? what would be a good starting point for the 45's to get the car run in idles mains chokes etc etc I will ultimately get the car on the rollers to be set up properly but need to get it run in first.

    Any help appreciated

I am no expert but I would have thought, based on information from other threads, that 45's would be too big for a 1700 unless you had the chokes on the smaller side?

You really need to figure out what jetting you have. Agree 45’s are big for a 1700cc pushrod. I had an all steel 1800cc full race Kent years ago 165HP that used 45’s
