    Help Please

    Help Please

    Hi there
my son and I have a mk2 Escort RS 2000 with a Cosworth YB 2wd standard spec engine.
It has been laid up about 4 years and several months ago we made a start on resurrecting it.
We have fitted a new roof to replace the old sunroof one which someone tried to weld and fill.
However, apart from this ,we have had nothing but zero results in getting it to run right,as it once did.
IT starts, but really badly over fuels and takes absolutely ages to get to run on 4 cylinders cleanly, the plugs are black sooted as you would expect.Plus it won't tick over at all,it just cuts out.😁😖😡
    We have replaced;
    Plugs
    Distibutor Cap
    Rotor arm.
    Crankshaft sensor
    Phase sensor
    Water coolant temp sensor
    Air charge sensor
    MAP sensor
We are currently debating changing the Idle Speed Control Valve which we have cleaned adjusted and think it should be OK.
Does anyone have any ideas ???
    Thanking you in anticipation.

Personally if I were you now that you have at least got it running Id take it to an expert. If its been sat for so long anything could have happened to the ECU or wiring. If its running weber management Id take it to Karl over at NMS in Derby as hes the closest to you. He should be able to diagnose whats wrong & hopefully get it running right for you. Its who Ive used in the past for mapping my cossie & hes mustard.

Sorry, mis-read your location. Theres also Motorsport Developments in Blackpool who do weber mapping as well, altho Ive never used them.

Firstly, stop throwing random parts at it as that could confuse matters even more, especially if they are not correct parts for whatever chip/tuning might be on the car.

If the plugs are fouled and old, bin them. If the plugs are fouled and new...bin them.

What sort of mixtures are you seeing, just exactly how rich is it ?

I assume you have put fresh fuel in it ? 4 years is a fairly long time. And checked filters etc.

Have you actually performed some sort of spark test to see how strong the spark is on all 4, rather than just throwing parts at it ?

Also, you might get some diagnostic help info here.

    Check loom wiring
I’m going to be removing my 380bhp engine from my mk1 in the next few weeks
I’ve got everything for this conversion

It’s more to do with when the engine was removed and if the loom has been in storage
The wires will have bent a certain way when in the engine bay for years and will become brittle
If they’ve been bent opposite it has potential for breaks
Do a continuity test for the whole loom
