Hi Mike,
Yes it came from the same source that are advertising shells.
cheers,
James.
Same company
Really keen to see one of these new mk2 shells built up. Anyone made one into a car yet?
Also I've a shagged passenger door on my car. Has anyone tried their doors on their cars?
Aye. I bought one for my mk2 rs. Good fit.
Hello,
Have you started building the car ?
As the Turkish distributor, we have received 1 each of the existing panels. Some were ok but some needed much improvement, like the rear quarters. Door's skins had problems at the ends and the main lines did not have the correct Ford profile. This means, the line profile does not match if you are using just a door, a quarter or a wing on an original Escort. We have immediately reported these kind of minor and major problems and learnt that the bodyshells and the parts will be improved when the actual production comes in from China. I have not seen the last shipment which is already sold out. All in all, it is great to have a brand new bodyshell available especially for a rally car build in my opinion.
I only bought a passenger door pal. No a shell. To me it fits fine.
Hi guys, I'm a newbie who hasn't owned a fast ford for 30 years but has suddenly got the bug again. I've been looking around for a MK2 RS2000 or Mexico but like the idea of these shells. Please forgive a silly question but what sort of ball park figure would it likely cost to build a car from one of these shells. I'd be looking to trim it like a MK2 RS but keep the running gear pretty standard.
Depends on original 'back to standard' or non original 'use things that work?
I'd say £20k minimum if starting from nothing, probably more!
Must be a real shock to somebody who dabbled in old escorts 30 years ago to find out there now worth so much, a guy i work with says he scrapped no end of escorts including a few mexico's
Considering I paid £2400 for an absolutely mint Mk2 Mex in 1981, yeah! Actually I've been looking around for the past couple of years so I'm not totally unaware of their current value. I'm 55 in a couple of weeks and can take a retirement lump sum so am in a position to buy a new 'Toy'. Now I've seen these shells I quite like the idea of building one from scratch.
Did you get one Joe ?
Big Wing sold and gone to be a film star
i have mine now, they are good but need alot of finishing off, is there no easier way to upload pictures on here
easy to upload pics ? resize, open uploader -point to pic - copy n paste to post.................
@leemk2cossie are you the guy that had the black mk2 in Gateshead. I used to live there and sure we passed each other a fair bit. I had a rotten 4 door (white/rust) at the time.
What do you mean the shells need finishing off? What areas or in what respect? Just looking at my shopping list and if there's anything else that's needed to be factored in then any more info is appreciated. Is the OP/Higgins taking all 'issues' on-board for next batch of shells or is that it for development, they just churn them out now and any problems/issues are done once they land? I'm not too fussed either way TBH, just knowledge is power (and then power is POWER).
I posted some photos of one of the new shells thats been painted here:

does anyone have any updates on the mk1 shells?? is it happening?
After having read information about the panels that are being supplied alongside these shells as not being a good fit on original shells what happens if you buy a new shell and a couple of years down the line need a replacement panel - which ones do you buy?! Am I right in thinking all of the panels aren't a direct swap? And how long are the Chinese made panels going to be available for?
We have recently bought 2 of those shells for rally car builds. For such builds with wheel arches etc, these shells well adequate for the job. However, if anyone planning a build up to the show car ( or classic restoration example ) then you may be better of using OE outer panels ( front and rear wings, door skins and may be the rear panel ) on that new shell. This way, as long as you can find OE quality Ford panels you can keep restoring your car in the future years. But, we all know that OE panels are now very expensive and rare.
Another option is, for a road car build, you could replace those outer panels with the Magnum replacement panels which seem to have a better quality. At the end of the day, both of the methods will give you rust free Escort which is nice. After changing those panels, it may be worthwhile to have the shell electro coated.
On the other hand, the current shell manufacturer may be thinking of improving the outer panels of those shells in the future. I will have a chance to find this out soon.
Ive heard from a few restorers that the panels are poor too.
i will defo be putting a new front end on mine ie wings , front panel, slam panel and bonnet
