well .................... yes basicaly (im on the red stuff) they fit shiiiiiiioooote. anybody reading save for a 105 speed ss manifold. not that i have tried one but im sure neil will supply one foc soon for promotion
speeeedo cable on.
exauhsty b racket made .
c u all soon..........................
its almost a month since my last post and reading it now it seems i really was enjoying that particular bottle
anyway, exhaust system brackets made and its fitted, will get some pics at some point..............
fitted gearstick only to find that the clutch wont disengage
i have a memory of a slight alarm going off in my head when i bolted the pressure plate onto the f/w. as it compressed onto the friction plate its fingers moved what seemed a larger than usual amount. im now thinking that i have mismatched bits from my parts bin (read skip)
im now thinking it hasnt enough movement left to disengage from the friction plate.
box out jub then
Hi
Just read through the thread, good work, wont be long till shes up and running..
found the time to drop the box off today (larger tunnel mouth helps a lot ) , the pressure plate didnt look correct at all, fingers were pushed right in flat. the problem is that after looking through my pile of clutch parts i cant find parts that look any better matched
The retroford flywheel takes the normal 215mm pinto clutch kit (I hope cos thats what I bought) Are you going down that route or Is It that just your pressure plate Is shot?
What clutch set up do you have at the moment then?
I'll keep that passenger wing when I cut the mex arches out btw so If you need It when putting bubbles on your mk1 gimme a shout

Coming along nicely
I have read somwhere that the 1.8 130ps spec (rs/xr) clutch Is the one to use but that might just be as It matches the 23 spline type 9??
What flywheel Is on It as the 2.0 silvertop one I have Is a fair bit thicker than the 1.8 perhaps If you have the 2.0 one the whole lots sitting too far back in the box In relation to the release arm ....If thats possible lol
If that sounds silly I have a good excuse I prefer filler and paint I look up the oily side of things on here
the 2.0 f/w i took off is bigger and has a raised outer part. this is (or was ) a complete setup from a 1.8 escort. from memory i think he said gti when i picked the eng up, it had a plastic inlet if that narrows it.. when i clamp it to flywheel the pressure plate fingers move a lot ( go flat) and dont have any release action left. what i dont get is that most friction plates seem the same thickness so it must be the pressure plate thats wrong. i have 2 here that fit the f/w and both are identical
i binned the bottom end after stripping it.

Ah right I see now... seams strange that as the set up you have should work according to a few forums I think many mention the 130ps clutch etc as It matches the type 9 but as your friction disc does It should be ok?
Perhaps a new clutch kit maybe In order so you know everything matches then or a trip to an autofactors maybe you could look at one to see If Its any different to yours before handing over your cash(or even a mooch on ebay at the clutch kit photos lol)
I think magichat71 (right name I think) uses a fwd clutch maybe worth a pm to see what set up he has...
Sure you'll get It sorted soon It will be worth the graft that should be a flyer
Hi Mike,
Don't know if this is any help but i've got a 2ltr blacktop which came with a 1.8 fw, i had the fw redrilled and tapped at a local machine shop to match up with a new pinto clutch kit i got. Bolted up to Type 9 and all fits together fine, release fork looks to be sat in right place but will know for sure when i get it fitted. Hows the engine mounts coming on?
hi allan.
just worked out who you are
i have been chained to the brush in the garden today but will be sorted soon as. (1/2 done).
i do have a 1800 f/w drilled for a pinto clutch but tbh i want to sort the setup i have, its baffflin me
bed now, im the wrong end of a bottle of red as usual
well after some googleing i came across 2 similar problems on the locost forum, one was fixed by a slightly thinner plate and a pivot point alteration and the other by limiting travel as it released ok at a smaller movement. its possible mine would have, i cant remember if i tried it with a soft predd of the pedal
anyway a 1.6 / 1.8 mondeo clutch kit is easiest to source and well recomended and ebay produced a new motaquip set for £32 delivered
this is the new set
and the old, they look almost identical to me
you can see how flat it goes when fitted.
as compared to
hopefully i can get the box in sunday and try it.
well i had a lift for 1/2 hr this evening. the box is in and the new clutch SEEMS to be working fine
i say "seems" as i have not run the engine yet, its just on 2 bolts, however by turning the box tailshaft ( dummy prop end) in gear while someone depressed the pedal it seemed fine, working as it should even fully depressed
hopefully i can grab an hour in the week and who knows it might even move itself
Nice 1 glad you got It sorted
fired it up today and the clutch does indeed work fine although its developed a little "shimmying" noise from somewhere clutch related nice to get it moving tho - all 6"
also fitted my gearbox raiser to cover the higher gearstick end (made worse by quick shift),
and got the exhaust fitted and sealed as well as a few other small jobs. no pics as i forgot camera but will get some next visit as i am overdue a clean up.
Good man! Gettin there then! I need to get mine sorted already!
finaly got a few hours this week
quick one of the gearstick tunnel raiser
decided to have a look at the electrics.
horn works but sounds so sad im not sure it would pass a mot
rear lights and all indicators working tho the number plate light are refusing at the mo.
front headlights they arrived less clips and despite looking high and low for a solution.........
i resorted to silicone
fettled the bowls / adjusters enough to get them in and working
not much but its dragged the resto up a few pages

Hahahaha!!! Thats the best bib retainer ive ever seen!! Ha!
forgot to mention that the wipers are dead the intermitant relay is clicking so power to switch in some form but not a twitch from wipers.
not good news considering how much ive screwed back under the dash
whats the easyest way to get at the motor ? i cant even remember where it is under the dash
I think, from memory, that the wiper motor is located near the fusebox under the dash, so above the glovebox if you have one.
You've raised a good point, I've not tested if anything other than the engine works
Yep above the glovebox, 3 screws from memory
great build, enjoyed the read and ace work all round
cheers
well the wipers turned out better than expected was indeed above glovebox so about as easy to get to as possible, then just unplugging and re connecting got it going
fixed the rear numberplate lamps which i had missed
all lights now working.
next i took a look at my bag of seatbelts
anyone got a pic of how the bits all go or a pic.
are the belts in before carpet ? its a few (20 +) years since i fitted a set to a mk2/1
Will take a pic tomorrow when its light if needed bud, theyre pretty straight forwatd tho so you may even get it sussed by then!
Yeah they're pretty simple and they go in fine after the carpet. I think you need to get all the kick panel bits (silver bit along door) in first too.
I'll try and get some pics too tomorrow. If both of us try, one of us will remember!
thx fellas its appreciated.
ive read of rear belt units mounting under rear shelf ? is this correct ?
one set i have are securon rears, they have 2 adjustable knobs for different mounting planes.
Can't help with the rear belts I'm afraid...don't have them!
of course for an mot, if you only have one seat......................
you only need one belt
Me either, for mot, you dont need any belts at the rear and for frnt, one per seat, so mo pass seat, no belt needed, and reat belts mot required for mot on a mk2 escort BUT if you do git rears, ive seen capri ones fitted but not done myself?
the rears do indeed fit below rear shelf. and mine has fixings there ready.
i fitted an old carpet today and spent ages beating 2 old alloy trims to shape, once its mot'd some of it will have to come back out for paint but at least i know it will fit.
chop chop!!
ive not been totaly inactive
seats all cleaned and refitted, i droped out the ecu and took the tank out again to weld up the trim holes in the boot, that went ok but i have had the tank back out 3 times now and still cant get the fuel pipe to tighten back up properly its a 10mm plumbing 90deg and its too cold lying on the concrete floor !
I'm not a great lover of cold concrete either lol but your nearly there bet you cant wait to get It out now
yeah i know what you mean!! the wind and the rain are holding me back, lol! your's really is getting there tho! looking real smart pal!
almost 2 months again
it climbed above zero deg. for an hour this morning so i ventured out. some of you may have seen a seperate thread i started regarding a popping noise from no4 inlet, today i corrected the cam timing but it was still there. i then balanced the bodies using a mercury setup for bikes, very sensitive but good to use. took a while as i couldnt get at no4 adjuster while it was running so the new battery came in handy. when finished the popping was gone
it may have been a sticky valve that cleared but the balancing seems favourite, tried it again this evening when cold and still A1. thx again to those that helped on the thread
one negative was that when hot, the plastic fittings in the header tank started to weep, anyone know a sealant for plastic into stainless thread ?
Ptfe tape maybe ?
Hexham and District Motorclub
wurth do a good sealant mate, will dothe job, dont ask me for the name tho!
so having sorted that problem the damn thing refuses to run cleanly now was ok for 2 days then started spitting back and now wont rev cleanly at all. i did notice last thing tho that the fuel pressure was down on 2 bar it sounds fine while priming but im wondering if its running out of fuel. at least its an easy one to check
other than that i have fitted washer bottle, wired reversing lights, spanner checked it and its just about ready for MOT
