Re: quick mk2 project (zetec hopefully)

well there was some good and bad today.
    its mot'd
    its insured,
temp gauge was steady and fan working in /out
drove terrible at first but was getting better all the time on the short trip - no surprise.

    but,
i think the tracking is toe out, no big deal.
brakes are utter shiiite, until i can get some miles on it to clean/bed them i wont know much more.

The map is out a fair bit, drove surprisingly well (a1) on part throttle but it would not take much over 1/4 throttle without bogging (didnt stop just gutless with no pickup ). my tail man reported it stank of fuel behind and gas analyser showing rich. i do remember upping the overall fuel when first getting it to run. it happily scaled the mountain road on a tickle.

tax in a fortnight, going to be a long 2 weeks !

    thanks for the comments people

i got it hooked up to the laptop today and installed a map i have had sent me by a kind chap here
    http://www.fatbaldbloke.co.uk/

it sounds crisper but will need to take it up the road under load to test it.
at least the ms connected and readings looked good (except its in Fahrenheit )

any megasquirt amateur experts reading this ?

Re: quick mk2 project (zetec hopefully)

update - so ............... 12months on i got back on it

it wouldn't take any throttle which i put down to rich mixture (mate following said it smelt rich and mot was way rich) , this fixation cost me some time but after a help post on here i tried more fuel and thats the answer

fuel trimmed upwards and now perfectly drivable but really does need to be mapped.
went for a spin today and now have a few more jobs beside the mapping

n/s caliper sticking on (brakes are crap)
    tracking toeing out
exhaust came loose and dropped off

    but it drives

Re: quick mk2 project (zetec hopefully)

Good to see you get back on It mate... mine stank of fuel and wasn't pulling quite right (although mines bike carbs) I raised my needles and It came alive and stopped stinking of fuel

Brakes wise I have bias box with servo just on the front m16 calipers and cossie calipers on the rear they are ok to pootle around In but any spirited driving and It Just takes to much hoof for me tbh I have .625 front cylinder theres hardly any brake pedal travel either so Im going to end up whacking some wilwoods on I think

Get the wideband hooked up. So bloody useful when tuning megasquirt before you get it on rr tune. What shocks you running?

dampers have settled a little but it goes stir crazy when i lift off since i adjusted tracking

hopefully next week i can lower the rear and measure front end.

anyone used a cheap digital angle finder to setup front end ? seems obvious or am i on wrong track

Intended to fit blocks today but I think 2" is too much so I need some 1" block's.
Re adjusted tracking and much better, no longer feels dangerous ! It does tho have a definite push to rh side when hitting throttle after 4th 5th gear upshifts.
Also dropped the ns front to level and now both struts are making horrible noises .

Re: quick mk2 project (zetec hopefully)

noise from the front struts, I had similar that felt/sounded as though the struts were knocking against the slider bushes, awful.

Turned out to be the top nut on one side knocking up and down against the top mount, though i missed it at first cos it was hidden inside the rtm cap.
car looks ace. happy to see this has been finished, I think you and i started working on the zetec cars at about the same time. (way back!)
if you do choose to get it rolling roaded, i can personally recommend Chris, efi parts in runcorn. (if thats not too far?)
Very skilled guy, patient, not expensive and god what a difference!

p.s. mine as standard on the suzuki tbs and retro ford manifold is showing 163 at 7200, can pull off in second and is very tractable.

Everyone ive taken out in it is convinced its way more than 163, even Chris said he doesnt pay much attention to the numbers, he just optimisies the setup using the graphs as comparisons.

stick with the debugging! worth it in the end

I think it's the coils turning on seats but not sure, it's there when static and pushed down now.

Funny you say that as i used to get a kick towards the passangers side on the rear when hoofing it and then a kick to the drivers side when coming off the throttle i thought it was the front too but it was the multileaf springs moving about!

    Quick update re megasquirt map.

I found that the map I am using was triggering the acceleration enrichment from a map signal (mapdot) and since mine just reads atmosphere I was not getting any extra fuel when hoofing it.
Changed setting to accel dot and now much sharper. I'm amazed it actually ran as well without it, can you imagine dcoe without accel. Pumps !

it seems that way going by other forums as well, but im surprised anyone is buying, unless something is basically free im not buying anything unless its edible or basically free. perhaps its different for me as i have a business which is going to be a real struggle to keep afloat

Part of the daft restrictions - car repairs are deemed an ok business to stay open - but if everyone barring 'essential workers' isn't using their cars what point is there being open? I've a mate who works in medical research places, servicing the fume / isolation cupds - the sort of stuff you'd have thought was fairly essential? but all of his clients have pretty much shut up shop and cancelled all his work! Problem comes when everyone comes back to work and all there equipment is out of certification and can't be used - what happens then?
Sorry off track there - normal service will be resumed later!

unless the need for a valid mot is removed you still need mot stations open, and you still need to keep vehicles safe and legal to drive. i would imagine a lot of garages will shut, and quite a few permanently!

It’s the pubs i feel sorry for they have been on the bread line for a long time and just when things are picking up this happens.

I sold up my escort because i forced myself too. I advertised it with the bumped rear quater and there was no interest. I bought a new project and that boosted me to get the escort nice to sell.

Sorry off track there - normal service will be resumed later!
the thing is - the companys that are still open inc medical suppliers dont want contractors on site, ours is one such and calibration periods are being dispensation to some extent - its a rather unusual position at the moment after all !

how much the classic market will be affected we will see but at the moment i cant buy another project even if i find one as cant travel

in deed, at lot of stuff is having to be "made up" on the go, 2 weeks ago who would of thought cars would of been given a 6 month mot exemption, that said i still have customers booking cars for mots, i personally have done more tests in the last two days than i normally do in two months! although to be fair thats because most of my staff are at home on 80% including my tester.
