Twin carbs on Pinto / Never seen this before !

This is for sale locally, never seen anything like it before.
    Is it a home-made jobby?

very cool, no its not home made

someone once told me it was a factory option on some mk2 escorts, how true that is i dont know, but the bloke who told me had built the car to original specs incl factory mods and had done a LOT of reasearch

Re: Twin carbs on Pinto / Never seen this before !

Looks homemade to me. There are a number of reasons why....
    1. The front carb looks wonky compared with the rear one.
    2. If it was a genuine ford manifold then why would the have cast the coolant channels in the face of the manifold to the left and the right? The head only has the centre channel doesnt it?
    3. If you look closely at the left hand runner on the first photo, is that a weld joining the runner to the flange?

    Just my thoughts :-)

That said, I have wondered about running two DGVs on a pinto myself, so would be interested if anyone has had any joy doing it?

There was one just recently on US Ebay.

    Definately a home made manifold.

This is something that I am working on at the moment, but am going to use 40dfav carbs which is basically a twin downdraft 40 carb. I have an adapter plate which bolts straight on to the Zetec head, so I intend cutting up a couple of x-flow manifolds up, or maybe bend some tubes. One of the carbs I have is fine, the other is still a bit ratty so will require a rebuild.

Hello Ive often thought of making a manifold like this myself but Id probably use two 32dgv carbs or similar with 2 32mm barrels as 2 32/36 would probably be overkill dont you think?? here are some pictures of a manifold I made with two 36mm IDF webers off an alfa romeo ,they work a treat and I have modified them with and IDF update kit from CB Performance in the US which converts the aux venturi to spray bar formation with 34mm chokes!

Let me know what you think

thats a bmw engine, probably in an E3 or maybe E12 some of them had twin twinchoke solexes, so the dgas fitted in the picture would be an easy swap

Bit of an wakening of an old post, but has anyone tried this with twin 32/36 or similar? Could it be a cheap uprade with some welding, why not?

Toyota had the same kind of setup on the Celica 1600 8V engine but I feel, there are better options which are much easier.

Nissan/Datsun straight six too, I think. Could be an option on a left hand driver due to room around the brakeservo and tower, and the IDF's is pricey.

Many 6 cylinder had this as standard setup but for a different reason, the engine was too big for only 1 carburetor and this way they could have progressive opening of 2 barrels. They had 3 cyl for each carburetor.

Ford V6 (and others) where using 38 DGAS where each throttle plate was serving 3 cylinders. But did not had the advance of having a progressive opening of 2 valves.

Holley is an example of a progressive carb setup for V engine but usual only seen on V8's.
