    Pinto std block sleeve

    Hello, I have a std pinto engine which has been rebored to suit 91.3 pistons.

    Now, If I want to put in forged pistons of the std diameter, I would have to sleeve the engine and rebore it back to the original size.

    Is it possible to do it in a Pinto engine?

    Yes and yes but whether it make financial sense is another question - most would say no and source another block even if it meant having to go to 1st overbore size pistons!

    The easiest and cheapest way is to use a 185 1800cc block and bore it out to standard size. As cast the 205 block and 185 block have identical bore wall thickness, only differing once machined to accept their respective bore sizes.

    In fact you could go slightly smaller on bore size (say 90.5mm) which would allow a rebore in future. You can have JP pistons made for any bore size, and they're no more expensive than Accralites.

    Is offsetting the crank to get it back under 2000cc an option for you? I have done that on a few engines for that exact reason,

    Actually the stroke should remain the same, and I don't know if it's less expensive than liners. I found a couple of 185 blocks here, are they the same of a 2.0?

    They have a smaller bore than the 2.0 but will easily bore to standard 2.0 size . The 185 and 205, as cast, are identical apart from the numbers. The crankshaft is identical to the 2.0 at 76.95mm. It even says 2.0 on it!

    Quote from I.K. Engineering;

    When these were new I used these in a few race engines as a donor block. 92mm was easy as it is the 2.0 litre block but with a smaller bore. The core of the block is the same as 2.0 litre. So you can use all 2.0 internals easy. IMO.

    Thanks to all, I ll try to hear from some engineers how expensive it is to liner my block. Then I'll decide what to do.
