Driving the car will certainly help as the followers need to be filled with oil for them to go quiet. (not that I have ever heard a quiet cam follower berfore, though! )

Re: Help needed - hydraulic followers

Thanks for the help guys, the problem seems to be the oil and the engine temp when ticking over, as its all quiet when driving and the temp gauge is sitting slightly lower. Ive changed the temp sensor so the fans are coming on earlier but neet to find a better oil everyone I've spoken to says the mobile 1 is like water even the 15/50

    Cheers

Hi Joe, the followers i bought from Matt Lewis Motorsport for £80 and they were advertised as genuine, the're not the cheap 40 quid ones that i've seen advertised

The genuine ones are 225 quid from burtons or ford so they cant be original for eighty quid dont make sense

The Original Ford Items are INA followers - the exact same part number Matt Lewis supplies so it wont be a follower issue.

More likely to be an oil pressure issue - check the pressure when hot.

Re: Help needed - hydraulic followers

    Clint may be onto something.

I had a very similar problem with my Nissan VG30. I tried thicker oil, replacing the lifters but the noise would just come back when the motor got hot. I eventually tracked it down to worn lifter guides, the oil when hot would feed up between the lifter and the guide bore so the lifter would'nt get enough oil to keep it pumped up. Replaced the lifter guide plate on the VG30 and never had problems again.

    Something you could look at.

Re: Help needed - hydraulic followers

My brothers just had the same issues except his wouldnt shut up, he tried another set from matt lewis and still the same, took the head off and turned out the pistons were just kissing the head as the only thing he didnt check in the build was the piston protrusion and they were 20thou over the recommendation! He was a bit annoyed as they were the forged cosworth pistons and the crank, rods and block are std so they should just fit and work!
