    Re: atlas axle for 300hp

    Hello.

All atlas axles are the same in the center, but there are different width. Depends on which car they come from. Cortina, Capri. Be careful when buying as it can be easily mistaken for cologne axle which is not ok ( Diff cover hight: Atlas=247mm Cologne=203mm other than that it is really similar and used to be mounted to capri cortina and later escorts german market cars).

Atlas is cheap and if lucky you can find one originally equipped with LSD (hi end model capris).
    There are different ratios available:
    -1:3,09
    -1:3,44
    -1:3,75
    -1:3,89
    -1:4,63
    -1:5,14
You can also buy after market LSD in 2 types:
    -QUAIFE thorsen (a bit cheaper)
    -ZF friction plate type

There are overhaul kits available in standard or racing, depends on what you are looking for.
You can also get rear disc conversion to Granada, sierra rear calipers and make them fit to standard handbrake cable (I produce adapters and brackets if interested PM).

In case that you will decide to overhaul it I recommend that you use an expert otherwise axle will produce more noise as before as they are quite hard to setup. If you are form UK I recommend FOSTEC http://www.fostek.co.uk/ If you are not from UK I can do it or recommend someone close to your country.

I run cologne 3,1 V6 turbo with 320hp in my taunus-cortina and standard overhauled axle with quaife LSD performs great.

If in doubt you can always go for racing half shafts and other goodies, but for 300hp I think standard should do OK.

    Best regards,

As is often said, it's the amount of grip you have that will kill the axle.
