BMW Gertrag gearbox onto Cosworth YB......

A freind told me one time that it was possible to mate a dogleg BMW gertrag gearbox onto a Cosworth turbo engine. He thought it was the gearbox out of a BMW 635 (gertrag 260) or the box out of a BMW 535 (gertrag 265)..... obviously an appropriate adaptor plate needs to be made to bolt to engine..

Has anyone looked into this before ????

Does anyone know if this is true, or have any further information on this. Not sure if it is possible, or know which of the 2 gearboxes would be best to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes its deffo do able, the twin plate race clutch in my bmw cam from a race cosworth which was fitted with a bmw box.

the dogleg box is as tough as old boots and will cope with 450lbft torque, 5th gear is a direct 1.1 not an overdrive, so your need to take that into account when selecting your axle ratio,

1st gear ratio is very low, i think its a 3.8 from memory, so its a bit of a waste of time, i only ever use 1st gear for trundling around the paddock, but it does give 4 nice close ratios

The old GP A RS500 race cars had the Gertrac box in them. Speak to XSport racing as they have one of the race cars in the workshop and may be able to help

The RS500 Getrag is a special with race gears , extended bellhousing and oilpump.
Very hard to get and expensive , I do have a bellhouse and oilpump if you need one ?
