Tuning for months with what? Manually with Megatune? With wideband or normal lambda or without any?
Shouldn't take more than few hours to get it 95% perfect.
tuning with tunerstudio its my first megasquirt project so go easy ive got it 80% there i have the vvt working and the car drives i have a huge lack of torque its impossible to spin the wheels and it looses power the more it warms up but for the first 20 mins from start acceleration is good i think my ignition advance is the main problem some times the revs hang around and dont pick up as quick as they should any ideas?
have you setup the tps ?
yes the tps is setup correctly i dont have an inlet air tempeture sensor which would probally solve the loss of power as it warms but theres no torque even when its cold im using an ignition advance map similar to that of a 2.0 zetec could this be the problem how different is the st170 to the zetec its badged as a duratec but people say its more like a zetec.
ill get it running as best i can cause ive been messing with it alot ive made it a little worse then ill post my ve,afr and ignition advance tables so you can point out anything that looks wrong also im using a alpha n map a was using speed density but acceleration came smoother and sooner with alpha n
yes alpha n is the way.
its not like a zetec, it is a zetec, just a tuned one as std. try bringing in the vvt later ?
ill also add any one who does a st170 engine in future you must use the vvt it dosent run right at all without it i noticed a double in power when i got it working
i havent tried to bring it in later no ive heard it should work best from 1800 rpm ill give it a go tho
also im not sure what the flow rate is for the st170 injectors at the moment i think ive got them down as 400cc min because i saw an american website that sold replacement ones for the svt focus which is just the same as our st170 but 400cc a min sounded high to me im using edis ingnition aswell if that makes a difference only because the car wouldnt start when i first finished the megasquirt installation so the company that sold me the ecu sent out a free edis unit turns out it was the plugs no idea why but it burnt 3 sets of plugs out bought some platinum tipped ones installed the edis and it worked fine. i want to go back to standard coil charge eventually so i can use the launch control.
i just never bought one will the origional ford one work with the megasquirt ecu?
air temp sesor doesnt make much difference from what ive read, you can use any sensor with ms, just need to alter the file in the software.
heres the big one, if a (v3)ms1 is built for using its on board ign drivers then it wont work with edis - its hard wired for something else. im guessing your edis is running in "limp home mode" at 10 deg advance fixed. mtech ?
try disconecting the ecu pin 36 saw signal from pin 3 edis, does it make a difference ? if not the edis is in limp mode

i got the ecu from trigger wheels its megasquirt 2 micro squirt the ecu reads it as megasquirt 2 rev ill try going back to direct coil charge after ive exhausted all my options
check you have ign advance first, otherwise your wasting time and effort.
try disconecting 36 and driving. or use a strobe.
even if your later version will do both onboard and edis without mods (i doubt very much) you still would need config changes. did trigger wheels send instructions ? or just an edis unit.
If you have st170 injectors they are meant to be 300ish at whatever psi the st engine runs at.
i set the req fuel to 315 cc and changed it from 4 squirts alternating to 2 and i changed my pwm current limit from 75% to 100% and pwm time threshold(ms) from 1.0 to 25.5 and its running alot better theres no hesitation now ive only revved it up im going to take it out tomorow cause ive ran it out of petrol hopefully the wheels will spin up and it will take off ive got a good feeling about this one do you think this could have been causing all my lack of torque ?

ign is working fine im sure the fueling was the problem ill find out tomorow
just to satisfy my curiosity, will that version ms run both on board ign drivers and edis without on board mods ? or did you mod board when fitting edis? cheers.
no mods to the megasquirt i followed some wiring instructions set it up on megatune and thats it. its microsquirt and the tunerstudio software recognizes the ecu as ms2 rev 2.8 if you wanted to know

took it for a drive the other day it ran a bit lean spat a few flames out so i increased the whole ve table by 10% and its running great the engine tone is completely different now its sounds great very low and loud grunt, my ears were ringing flat out in 4th i had such a smile on my face now for the fine tuning thanks for all the help people

I'm also just about to install into a Chevette, a ST170 with gsxr 750 TBs using megasquirt 1 v3 with extra code (whatever that means) My last build was a pinto on 45 webbers so this is a big step into the unknown world of black magic for me.
Looking at the wiring diagram, I can't see a way of operating the VVT, there's not even a switch light output I can see.
Can anyone offer any advice, pointers, base maps etc.
I'm planning on using the standard ST170 injectors, rather than the TB ones, not sure what lambda sensor I need but I'd imagine that's the least of my upcoming problems.
As I say, I'm a complete novice so need advice in laymans terms my level of idiocy can understand rather than assuming I'll understand any tech speak.
hi Timo.k for the vvt i used a switch that i fitted to the tb at a set throttle position it sends 5v to the solinoid not perfect but it works quite well
you can use switched programmable outputs from ms with the extra code . ie at above 1800rpm and over 20% throttle switch the vvt. search for the nitrous output options etc.
