    Anybody Know German - Translation Req.

    My new lathe is an Eriksen 180-NE "Emato". I believe it is of German origin (see below) but I cannot find any info on it. I have tried to get onto German machining forums but the translating is just too hard. If anybody has or can get some info it would be hugely appreciated. (I have already looked on www.lathes.co.uk)

    The main reason for this thread is that part of the gearing (a clutch housing I believe) has some cursive writing on it. It is hard to read due to the script used but I think it looks like;

    oeblinghaus - werke wermelskirchen Fabr. Nr 57-73

    e's could be r's b ut that is the best I could estimate. Google translate does nothing with it. Any German speakers who could help??????

    Wermelskirchen is a place.
    Fabr. Nr will be fabrication number
    werke is work as in plant, factory
    oeblinghaus no idea. Surname?

    I'd say it's a serial number

    Not really sure if this will help as it seems to be abit about erikson lathes, but whether it'll have anything specific to your lathe or not is a different matter.

    I would've thought if you email/ speak to the guy there he would be able to shed some light on it...

    This link does seem to show your model number

    Rallyrob - I have already looked at that website and touched base with Tony. I bought a catalogue that covers Eriksen lathes but it was only sales literature.

    haus - is house

    Babelfish gave - oeblinghaus - works Wightman Fabr. No. 57-73

    There appears to be a company called Ortlinghaus who specialise in clutch components. Could be that as the script looks very similar to what is on the lathe part. I think we have it!!!!!!

    Reading through http://www.lathes.co.uk/eriksen-lathes/page2.html it would seem that its a very capable lathe capable of fair sized work both turning and in length and as regards threading - well more than I can imagine ever using! Hope it's not too worn and still can perform!

    Me or the lathe

    As best I can tell the ways are not worn and everything feels free with little to no play. The machinist I bought it off says that he never used it and he bought it from a place that didn't use it much...."it's a great mota, a nice li'tle runner" - heard the stories before but hope they are true. Need to find a steady rest for it.
