    Re: crossflow radiator

I wouldn't think so - the angle of the top hose union is the wrong angle.

However, it would fit in the engine bay - plumbing would be the problem!

    Re: crossflow radiator

You would probably have to make a hybrid of the crossflow and pinto top hoses and join them with a length of hose joiner.

I take it you have access to a pinto rad and not a crossflow one? If you shop round you could prob get a xflow rad for £40.

Its not that expensive to get the crossflow rad recored with an bigger core, have a ring around radiator repair places.

    Re: crossflow radiator

Get yourself a 2l capri rad, thats what i did for mine, no chopping of the lower xmember needed and the outlet is straight so its a straight swap over, sits out the top a bit but loads of clearance on the bonnet Mine came from ebay from a rad shop

    Re: crossflow radiator

same as dave - 2.0 capri one. ran it on my x/flow & still got it with the pinto. will drop straight in there but i did chop mine about to move it right forward.

iirc it was about £65 brand new.

PS i think it's just the RS2 & maybe some of the cortina ones with the angled top inlet.

Same as those two above - Capri 2.0 rad, fits straight onto an escort using the original crossflow hoses, no messing about needed

If its running hot could be that the thermostat is not opening properly - have you tested it? Is it an 82 or 88 degree thermo? You could try it with an 82 degree one in it to see if it makes a difference instead of buying a new rad and trying to get it to work! If you're running an 88 degree thermo the 82 could bring the temp down a bit.

If you get a bigger rad the engine will be cooled more (which is what you want in answer to your problem) but the thermostat will have to be closed more often to allow the temp back up! Thats why i think try the thermo first.

I don't see any reason why a 1700 should run hotter if you're not thrashing it?!

Are you running a standard ford water-pump-mounted fan? Got an airlock in the system?

    Re: crossflow radiator

i'd put my money on a new rad curing the problem personally.

Haha I do drive it like I stole it most of the time tbh
But tried new stat, tried without a stat, tried a new head, new hoses, new water pump still gets hot, I'm still running the original manky rad so I thnk the best thing is just to uprate it to a 2lt rad!
