XE position in Escort Mk4 RWD conversion

    Hi All,

I've finally sucumbed and decided to move away from a Cosworth lump in my Escort rally car and install a XE. I've just done a dummy run for installation ready to weld the chassis mounts and I'm a bit concerned with how far back the engine is sitting in the engine bay.

Now I know its usually good for handling to set and engine back and low, but just slightly concerned with the difference between the Cosowrth and XE.

The gearbox is mounted using the original mount used with the cosworth. The back of the engine is about 1cm away from the bulk head (which was generous in the first place). The front of the engine sits about 12 inches from the front of the chassis....miles of dead space even with the rad in.

    Is this normal?

    Cheers

Defo, bags of room at head level for the kit either side. Exhaust will be hand made by a specialist firm, be a bit tight as the dry sump pipes are the same side going through the bulkhead.

The starter motor housing on the bellhousing is a few mill from the tunnel and steering column so I'm having to notch that out and plate it as well as mod the steering column. Not such a big job as I have some leyway in the column.

The only other thing I can do is bring the engine forward about an inch and change my gearbox mounts. There is enough in the prop input shaft for me to do this.

Even bringing the engine forward an inch it still looks like its sitting too far back in the engine bay compared to the Cosworth lump and this is my only concern.
