    Building a 2.4 duratec

I was initially looking to build a 2.0 duratec for my escort but im now leaning more towards 2.3 bored out to a 2.4.

First of all has anybody on here gone down this route, the mazda 6 sport appears to be a good cheap donor for the bottom end, could i then just stick a fiesta st head on it with throttle bodies?

Is the mazda bottom end the same as the ford variety, are the differences listed anywhere?

Why would you be wanting to bore out a 2.3 Duratec unless the bores are totally worn out? Beware there is n't a great lot of material in the bores to go to a much larger diameter according to a Duratec specialist that I know.

Yes you can interchange parts with some of the Mazda Ranger engines, example a 2.5 Ranger bottom end will accept the High Port head off the Fiesta ST 150's.

What some Tuners do to achieve 2.4 is fit the 2.5 bottom end with a shorter stroke crank from a 2.3 engine.

    Building a 2.4 duratec

Thanks for the reply, i read some really good things online about the 2.4 (albeit theres not huge amounts of info out there)

The current plan is a mazda mx5 6 speed gearbox, a mazda6 sport 2.3 bottom end and a fiesta st high flowing head, ford ranger crank, sump and oil pickup pipe.
Set of jenvey 48's and a nice set of cams.
Upgraded pistons and rods, looking for around 260bhp

Trial and error really but im hoping it will all work together

I currently have a base 2.5 engine I bought, I have Woosner forged pistons and steel Rods to go in it at sometime when I can ever get round to doing it.

My idea is similar to yours and fit the ST head along with a pair of different cams and throttle bodies. It might be a good idea to speak to Paul Gardner Engines as to what you require as he does all sorts of builds of the said engine.

My Mk2 Rally Car build is slowly coming to completion, that's currently got the Pinto engine fitted. If I am happy with how the old Pinto performs then I might sell all the Duratec parts I have acquired.

It's going to be difficult fitting the ST head on there, no? Or am I missing something?

Fiesta ST 150 Mk 6, not a Focus ST cylinder head!

Pretty much the same engine, the ford duratec found in the mondeo, fiesta ST, C-Max is a mazda designed engine with a ford badge
