How high spec? how much are you looking to pay?
What you got
Been offered a good spec 2.2
Dave Brooks head
Steel crank
Tony law exhaust
Was on a single 48 for rallying but comes with new twin 45’s
Might have a 92mm forged pistons, steel rods, wire ringed block, ultra BVH with 45.5mm inlets, Ht1e cam, twin 48's, SRD stainless manifold, H&H ignition etc, all work done by Vulcan with reciepts, 200hp, would be looking around £5k without carbs and manifold, £6k with, virtually brand new.
Ok thanks
One I’ve been offered is all steel 2.2
Dave Brooks head
HT1e cam
Omega pistons
Hi torque starter
AP clutch
Tony law manifold and system
Running 202bhp on a single 48
Done 1 rally but coming with twin 45
It also comes with s type 9
Prop
I’m thinking it’s s bargain now
202 bhp on a single 48 seems a lot of power. What are the bore and stroke sizes Tim? Brookes always does a good head although a strange cam coice if it's come out of a Road Rally car.
If you believe it's a bargain then get it bought before some other bugger does! Good luck.
Brooks Pinto's are around £12k new. be very careful it is what the seller says it is, 202hp on a single doesnt sound right, maybe on twin 48's. Std practice is for the head to be off for inspection and the seller to rpovide a head gasket to refit. I have reciepts for £7500 for my build and photos of the entire build. How much is he asking for it?
with that much money at stake you need to be very careful. Brooks head does not mean he built the rest of the engine etc and can you prove the head is genuine etc. If you are spending big £ on a 200 bhp pinto get one built at least you know the history etc.
Brooks engines have a build number you can contact Dave with to check the spec etc, youre right there have been lots of Brooks heads for sale over the years, any decent used engine with have a build sheet, photos, reciepts and the head off for inspection , possibly sump off and big end caps removed also.
Sorry to intrude on this. Erik is your wire ringed block got a headgasket or original wills rings plus paper gasket. My wills ringed block blew the paper gasket so I ended up making some wire rings out of gas welding wire an put a headgasket back over that...
Never seen a build price for a Brooks Pinto so I often wondered how much they were

Mine uses 0.6mm mig wire. Block is machined to 0.3mm so the wire protrudes 0.3mm above the block surface, the wire sits on the outside edge of the Reinz gasket fire ring, been building engines that way for years including turbos, works a treat, i have photos on here.

I’m trying to get details
I think it’s only the head that Dave Brooks did
From what I’ve been told it’s a 2.2 stroker engine
Just confirmed it was 194bhp on the single
One of the first 2.2 stroker engines Brooks did was for Mike Pattisons 1987 Road rally car. The bore was a std 90.8 ish and the stroke was 84mm giving approx 2174cc. Apart from it having a German GP1 cam in they were the only things I could get out of him regarding specification. It had split 48 Webers on as well.
Still looking for an engine
Exactly buying any highly strung engine is a gamble unless you know the seller and they can be trusted etc. Personally I would get one built. You have no guarantee an engine is good and there so many experts selling wonder power.
If you buy a second hand engine account for some overhaul costs.
