that will be because 2.1 makes it a screamer.....
and gives another 30bhp, not that anyone can back it up with a dyno graph!
Mine was bought advertised as a 2.1
Dream on ......
And when used in competition back to a 2.0L again!
I was thinking exactly the same, most pinto escorts for sale have 2.1 engines and I was wondering why I don’t have one seeing as everyone else does.
Thanks
Kris
Any Pinto that's had a rebore automatically becomes a 2.1 according to bar room talk and adverts as does a X flow when everyone thinks they have a 1700 or 1760. It's amassing how a bit of marketing and self belief can increase bhp.
I had a mk2 Mexico at 19 years old with a Burton 2.1 in it. Only saving grace was i knew the builder (of the car) and had dyno graphs to prove it. Considering the cost of the build (to get the most out of the extra cc) i doubt most would bother. Better carbs, cam and other bits make similar power gains as a rebore with so much less cost and agro. When you see a 2.1 with stock twin choke e.t.c. its a brag at best.
When I bought my car it came with a very nice looking and built up 2.1 with bv head, turned out to be a standard 2.0 205 block when I stripped it. I wasn’t convinced it was a 2.1 ect but it came with everything eles so not like I just bought that. And on the upside I had a standard engine to work from.
ha ha ...guilty as charged ...i bored and stroked my pinto ,and got it to 2160cc....but i still say its 2.2....pinto....
I sent mine off for a rebuild and thought I may as well have it taken out a bit to 2.1. Got some pics as proof just in case the receipt wasn't enough. (Not that they are proof it is my engine in the pics. LOL)
If it ain't Ford, don't fix it!
An old bloke near me used to take Pintos, take off the 2L flywheel and then 1600 flywheel was put on slightly lightened and he told everyone it was a 2.1
All left happy! That was back in 1981
