They are bigger as they sit on a seal which sits on the welded seam, where as the fixed ones sit in a H section rubber so they need to be smaller than the aperture.
Not sure I've explained that one very well! works in my tiny mind

i have a pair of hinges i took off a car in a scrap yard years ago.i didn't take the glass as i assumed they were glued to the standard glass.maybe i could use poly ?
