This guy bought an inlet manifold from me for throttle bodies... Angles the ITBs up, and not straight. Easy to see on this car as you see the engine easily.
A pair of cams, and ECU, and a good exhaust manifold should see you well on the way to 140bhp.
My engine is a 16v, and is standard apart from exhaust manifold and ITBs (and ECU) I have never had it dyno'd but i reckon it has around 130wbhp
Also, I fitted the TRD RWD exhaust manifold on my car with no dramas. But the bunch on bananas look nice

Beautiful work Neil, as always. I would go 4age, much cheaper than a duratec install and uncannily similar to a BDA in internal dimensions.
The 20v engine when compared to the 16v, when both standard, has around 20-25bhp more I think......a good starting point if you're not wanting to go & spend extra time & money on modifying the 16v.
A friend of mine has a 209bhp 20v & it is a great engine, pulls from very low down & is running on the original throttle bodies with Omex 600 management.....it came as a complete engine from Richer Macer.
Would this be FWD? i know its in the back which makes the car RWD??

Its technically like the front wheel drive installation as its east west, not north south in the car.
This is one from a RWD Corolla

I bet thats a flier with 209 hp ! Any idea of the spec of it to get those sort of numbers ? I've always thought that the crank and rods are good for a lot of rpm so short of some good headwork, cams and high comp pistons you could see around the 180hp mark from the 16v and still retain some reliability. It would be good to see some specs and dyno graphs for these engines to see whats needed to get good power from them.
As for Macer, I guess thats RM sport, seemed like a decent bloke when I first met him but have heard a few stories like you usually do with any tuner, seems to know his stuff on the 4AGE though.
Neil, thanks for the pics, looks like a nice manifold, how is it in fitment to the oe item as I believe my mates is a uprated Corrolla manifold which fits the Starlet very well, its just tiny and crap and no doubt holding the engine back no end.
The standard Corolla exhaust manifold is actually very good.

I am doubting the stock manifold can do 200hp tbh, would like to see that proven rather than written.
So are you guys sayin I'm not gonna get alot of fun outta my 1600 xflow?
I'd go with a 4AGE over the xflow but I'm no expert when it comes to xflows ! or 4AGE's but I know they take some punishment.
Well I've had the ae86 experience and loved it but I'll stick with this wee engine! Til I'm bored that is
Iv brought a 4-AGE now so going to be busy should be back on the road for xmas
Can you run a 2000E gearbox or am i going to have to go type 9?
I think the bell housing is only available for the type9 Keg...
I once drove a 4age that was very slightly modified with a 4.3 diff in it and it felt a lot better, a lot more fun to drive than my standard english diff... just a thought
Talk to Neilm, think he sell a 2000e adapter for a Toyota bellhousing.
Think that is what RetroFord Ben's Anglia use
how big are these compared to zetecs?
including the east-west gearboxes too
You can get a adapter for toyota bellhousing to 2000e gearbox, but, the bellhousings are like rockinghorse poo, you will have to buy one attached to the gear box, thats what i found anyway so went down the type 9 route, cheers

Very popular conversion over here due to our cheap Jap imports. As has been said, look for an original RWD car. See the attached link with has heaps of info for the discerning modifier.

That's my car
hi all, my mk1 also powered by AE86 4AGE with T50 gear box and std english axle since 1995..
looks great, what gearbox and diff are you running?
thanks, i'm using original AE86 gearbox T50 and also english axle with 3.9:1.
What about the radiator?? What kind is better for a MKI with swapped engine 4AGE 16V
