    Sump plug re-tap to metric?

    Hi all.

I have cleaned and painted my Xflow sump up but the plug/bolt has seen better days. Its usable but pretty severely rounded off.

I was thinking rather than hunting down a new one (and probably having to pay over the top as its not a common size) could i drill the thread out (1/2 UNF i believe) and tap it to M14 and use a more modern plug bolt?

    Has anyone done similar?

Only thing to make sure is that you tap it straight

I had to repair someone’s who had tapped it on a slant and wondered why it wouldn’t seal
