Front strut options on a budget.

    Ok.

I am looking for a set of front struts for my 72 escort.

It will run a mildly tuned 1600 Xflow (A little over GT spec) and i am trying to get as close to a genuine Mexico/light mods as possible.

Time was i would buy 2.8i struts but not only do they seem to be like hens teeth but many sellers want Gold unicorn poo prices for rusty old scrap.

I have overhauled a pair of M16 (wide for vented discs) calipers i want to use which means 2.8i discs so i want to know what struts work with the mk1 and 2.8i discs? Or another disc combo for the M16 calipers.

I dont mind buying good inserts but spunking 60% of my cars purchase value on a set of GAZ coil overs is not in my budget.

Any suggestions chaps? I am more than keen on overhauling everything to keep costs down and get things as good as new without buying new.

use 2.0 capri front struts, and hubs thats what was fitted to RS2000, and although rs2000 never had vented discs 2.8 capri goes straight on

Front strut options on a budget.

And with a little research you can change the oil to stiffen the damping.

That's exactly what we used to do 30 years ago. From ATF up so some industrial hydraulic fluids we have tried. Working fine, never had any problems with them. Only, for real hard rally-cross you needed up-side-down struts inserts of you keep bending shafts.

yup back in the day when we had no money, we used to drain shocks and refill with EP80 gear oil. on struts and shock that couldnt be dismantled we used to dril a couple of 1/8th inch holes, in them to drain and refill and mig weld the holes back up afterwards

madness, ok my 20 year old car isnt as clean on emissions as a modern one, but it uses less fuel and already exists so how can making a new to replace it car be good for the planet?

It's good for business and tax people. In Germany you need to pay "emission tax" and then you may enter the city (than the car is clean or is clean in your mind????). Wether you pay or not, it does not change anything to the planet. Belgium the same pat 35 € a day and you may enter low emission zone.

Indeed, replacing old cars will send a lot more CO2 than keep them driving.

For those who thing running electric is clean, not if you produce electricity out of cokes.
