    T5 gearbox to pinto

I am looking to mate a T5 gearbox to a pinto in the not too distant future because my plans for the engine over the winter mean that the type 9 box will not be suitable. Before I spend my hard earned on parts and learn the hard way, is there any bits of wisdom anyone can give me about doing this?
I understand the type 9 bellhousing bolt straight to the T5?
Dimensionally, is it a much bigger gearbox?
Clutch-wise what problems am I likely to run in to?

    Thanks guys!

The T5 and Type 9 bellhousings do not interchange. The T5 Cossie bellhousing fits the Pinto but it's designed for a larger flywheel. You can modify the bellhousing to put the starter in a postion where it works with a Pinto flywheel, or you can have a special flywheel made with Cossie dimensions and Pinto bolt pattern (6-bolt crank). There are also special alloy bellhousings to mate a T5 to a Pinto using a Pinto flywheel (RS2000 type bellhousing). I have one spare but in Sweden that probably won't help you...

Clutch wise you can use a Pinto clutch. The clutch fork may need to be modified though, to suit the bellhousing and clutch travel.

The T5 is a bit bigger but it's not a big difference and the weight is approximately the same. The shifter is a bit bulkier and the gearbox is a tad (10 mm perhaps) longer so watch the prop length. I would really recommend a good quality quick shift, I use the Steeda Tri-ax shifter (US Mustang T5 shifters work fine).
