wide lip doesnt refer to efi or carb, its early or late, they went wide lip when sierras came out

    Re: Pinto cam cover gasket

if you look on ebay they are advertized as wide / narrow.
both need care when fitting to seal. i have recently fitted a narrow without issue. my method ( not right / wrong just the way i do it)

    clean cyl head gasked surface.
clean cover gasket surface and flatten out any previous indents around bolt holes.
fit gasket to cover - some need a trim at the joint position and i trim the male end.
carefully fit in position without dislodging and fit bolts / washers.
pinch up very lightly by hand (screwdriver socket usefull) the vertical bolts then the 2 at front (v light)
give a final nip up and then lastly the 2 at front on tower.
a smear of hylomar can be used each side of gasket in which case leave 5min before final pinch up.
    works for me ..............

Thanks for info I’m going to fit the narrow cover as it’ll give me more room for inlet
So narrow cover is from early engines

I thought a narrow lip cover wouldnt fit a head that came with the wide lip?

    Pinto cam cover gasket

Looking at them recently the later heads do have a slightly wider sealing surface - not a lot in it tho.
The cover lip is a greater increase as is gasket.
To poster - the covers are all the same its only their sealing lip that's wide or narrow. No gain in space.
