    Numberplates and dvla

Would I be put on a q if I declared all the mods on my escort?
What about just a colour change only?

If the car is registered a plate is retained. If its age cannot be established, is substantially being modified, it will need MSVA testing and pending the outcome a Q plate will be issued. Changing a colour is notifiable but not plate threatening!

I'm not familiar with your car, have you kept 8 points worth of parts? https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registrat...tered-vehicles

If not, then yes you end up an Q.

    Re: Numberplates and dvla

This is where some interpretations come in.

Original suspension - if it is original style and original mounting points, should be ok
Axles - again, original style and mounting points, should be ok
Steering assembly - original rack case and connections to hubs should be enough

That’s 6 points, it’s down to whether you can claim the chassis as original unmodified and that what is modified isn’t part of the chassis. Additions, like the cage, are fine, it’s alterations/removals of the original that’s the issue.

    Numberplates and dvla

This subject still confuses me. Doesn’t only apply if you want to MOT exempt your car ? Also I am sure there are clauses for safety and emissions. So a modern engine and big brakes can come under that ?

    Re: Numberplates and dvla

5 points have to come from a untouched bodyshell regardless of anything else, so if you haven't got that your stuffed "technically".

6 link means the type of suspension is altered so no points for that. Has to unaltered back and front to claim 2 points,
    Not original engine no points
    Not original box no points
Original type steering you get 2 points

I make that 7 points assuming the body hasn't been altered so its oh dear "technically" as you need 8 points.

Mot exemption is different thing completely. The clauses you refer to are for axles/gear changes for safety or environmental, it does not include engines or cutting the body up to fit said axles/gear changes.

My tvr is mot exempt... I had sign to say the vehicle had not been altered from its standard production state.
So couldn’t a modified vehicle , ie seats, engine , brakes , bodywork come into this ‘ altered ‘ condition and therefore need a mot certificate

    Re: Numberplates and dvla

Most people running modifieds if they have any sense will just continue to get their car mot'd as normal at least. DVSA usually only get involved if they are alerted to a vehicle by another authority ie DVLA or the police. There are some cars are a just on the 8 points minimum reqd many others are way below, but tbh there isn't the staff available to police the situation roadside. Radically modified (points thing) is self declaration as is the the other substantially modified(for mot exemption or not) class. Its up to the owner to decide what route to take. You just have to accept the consequences if anything ever went wrong or you get caught if you try to "cheat" the rules I guess.
